Where do you find new music?

I've realised I haven't been listening to so much new music
as I used to a year or two ago... I feel a bit old and jaded
music-wise.

How do you guys find new music? Any specific podcasts/radio
shows?

To be honest I really miss the old John Peel days, I used to
get so much from that - just individual songs, as well as
new artists generally... I really don't feel very as 'on the
pulse' as I did back then.

Radio 3's Late Junction and Mixing It, now moved to
Resononace FM. Those and Wire magazine.

This may sound awful but I almost never get any
recommendations from friends anymore.

Ohhh, what easily avoidable misunderstanding has taken place
now... bloody hell. I bought, ostensibly for Mr Pickles, a
Darth Vader helmet just like yours. Well, exactly like
yours.

As in I MISSED HIM THAT VERY SECOND, not that he logged off
BECAUSE I replied.. it's such a fucking minefield.

Apparently girls in America say "OMG", as in they employ,
verbally, the acronym, is this true?

Luckily no, not yet, but then, my contact with people in
their natural environment is limited.

offline EVOL from a long time ago on 2007-03-28 00:02 [#02066877]

i find new music all the time usually by way of the
internets, but that doesn't mean i always find new music
that i like. although, 10 years ago i'd find new music by
constantly attending local ska and/or punk shows every
weekend. that's when the internet began to slowly make its
way as a new music resource along the same time when the
local ska scene was dying down.

my friends and browsing record shops (you know, looking
around, liking the cover, and having a listen. don't people
do this anymore? leaving one's home is such a dangerous move
these days)... more recently my girlfriend has been a big
influence on my music discovery. the smiths, the magnetic
fields, new order, the books - thanks honey!

Lots of online record stores, lots of offline record stores,
word of mouth, random downloads and a few close friends who
trade the good stuff.

As I am a complete music geek, not much passes me by.

If I went by what the local record shop had in store I'd be
telling you now about the great King Crimson box set, Rush
live video and back catalogue of Dream Theater I'd just
bought.

Forums (here, rateyourmusic.com, etc), last.fm, allmusic,
books, whatever. And CBC Radio 2, don't know what I'd do
without that.

transfer rate, i'll grab a few random folders off them. it's
a good way to expand your horizons.
