the pronunciation of the 'i' in 'vibert'.

"eye" or "ih"?

i used to always say 'eye', just by instinct (that old rule
about the 'e' changing the preceeding vowel sound to its
name), but i heard him being referred to as 'vihbert' in
interviews loads of times and that kinda shook my
confidence.

According to Messervy, a renowned historian, in a charter
of king Stephen in 1136 mention is made of Benedict son of
Wibert. In early times the spelling of surnames varied
considerably and various forms of the surname can be found
including Wibert, Wiberd, and Vibert, which had the same
origin and are probably derived from the Teutonic word
Wigbert which means war bright.

- Luke War Bright! New alias perhaps for the man that has
over 100 already?

Origin of the name Vibert

i used to say v-eye-bert, but now im gonna start saying
vee-bear just to sound like an elitist twit, like
pronouncing sigur ros as see-oor ros, not sigger.

haha! the pronounciation of "vybert" sounds fitting for an
electonic musician (vibe+urt). although, "veebear" does
seem to make more sense logically to me now considering my
illustrious knowledge and extensive background in all things
having anything to do with HOCKEY; the tie in there being
the fact that hockey eminated from the worlds 2nd largest
french speaking city, MONTREAL, in the province of quebec...
which means i know way too many french names for my own
good.

"sigger" and "see-oor"...bullshit either way, i'd say. i
doubt someone saying see-oor is an elitist twit, just a
twit.
the few times i've said vibert has been "v-eye-bert", wether
it's wrong or not.

This should be a sticky topic. I wouldn't suggest anyone
listen to the track "Juicy Luke Vibert" where the man
himself says "I'm juicy Luke V-eye-bert" because that would
end this thrilling conjecture.
