The entire E P is good, but yeah that track in particular is
one of those quintessential diamonds of aphex sound.

as with the On pair of discs, I prefer the remix disc to the
original.

One of the first aphex tracks I ever heard. Every time I
listen to it now it takes me straight back to that feeling
of amazement.

elusive> Welcome to 1995.

First Aphex Twin cd I bought, opened it in my car, the cd
wasn't there, took it back in the store and got thier last
copy.

It's ironic that the best Aphex track is by Cylob.

Ha, is it actually by him?
I don't have any cylob, I would however like to get some
based on this song.

Its not just this song alone that takes me back to my first
listen, its all of 51/13 singles, such a great introduction
to aphex.

Well, if you hear the Aphex Twin track Ventolin, which isn't
very pleasant at the best of times.. then you hear the Cylob
remix, which may or may not contain processed elements of
the original "Ventolin" or may just be "inspired" by
Ventolin, much like the Luke Veebear mix, then I'd say, on
the basis of this 2x12"

Cylob 1 TopTrack, Aphex Twin 7 duffly recorded, throwaway
annoyances.

offline B123 from The wicked underbelly (Australia) on 2007-03-21 19:53 [#02064839]

Yeah the original ventolin is challenging. I always just
thought that all the mixes on that album were aphex and that
maybe the 'cylob' mix was just a nod or reference given that
all the other mixes were by aphex.

and now I know...

and luke vibert

and re: dogblech...i dont think its all throwaway
annoyances

probus is a very very nice track too

i always had a special place for the whole ventolin ep
as the cheap lofi simplicity of ALL of richards work back
then was always ONE key factor in how much enjoyment i got /
get out of it

the coppice at 45rpm is brilliant
and the realy cheap clanging carboot drum machine one with
the toy keyboard melodies is great

the cylob remix is definitely (as cnut said) one of the
greatest tracks ever "in this genre you call IDM"

i bought it when it came out 2x12" for 4 quid
i still think that's one of the best purchases ive ever made
in my 34 years on earth

A few of the b-sides sound 200 times better at 45, but I say
this every time Ventolin's mentioned. A couple of them are
really stand out tracks, but then, at 33rpm as they are on
the CD, I think they're awful, just sound like they're
deliberatly annoying. Oh I don't know.

i owned the vinyl for a long long time before i heard the
cd
i genuinely could not believe it was at 33rpm

i used to think much of the tracks were intended to be
played at 45
and released at 33 on cd as a kind of secret present to 12"
buyers

in a vaguely similar fashion to sonic youth putting a bonus
track on the "dirty" vinyl as opposed to the cd which was
the absolute norm of the day

also as ive mentioned about 1 billion times on watmm
side d of throbbing pouch is miles better at 45rpm
and by miles i mean 100's of 1000's of miles

it is a great song, i remember when i first heard it being
turned off by the auto chord arpegio going through out the
track but now i really love it

Not just one of the best Aphex or Cylob tracks, in my
opinion is one of the best electronic / IDM tracks ever

Agreed. It was my number 1 track here (23/11/2002) although my
list has since changed.
