Got my layoff notice on Friday...

it's happened again. I'm to be laid off and unemployed for
the 4th time in my career on April 16th. The first 3 times
I was laid off, it happened 3 years in a row on the same day
each year. this time it took almost 5 years to get laid
off.

bottom line, biotech related research is NOT a field into
which i recommend anyone try to make a living. the pay is
crap and the job security is non existant. In the U.S.A
anyway, where the war effort is absorbing all government
spending such that the NIH funds only 10% of grants, even
university jobs are not safe.

maybe it's time to change career paths. i was a damn good
pizza delivery driver, back in the day...

Can't you move sideways into Bioweaponry?

maybe this is the time to present a big 'fuck you' to your
country and get the fuck out while you still can.

That definitely sucks! At least you can seek comfort in that
you're not getting laid off because your skills are bad if
it's a budget cut / keep seniors on kind of thing.

yeah, i'll get to collect unemployment insurance which will
probalby work out to about half of my current salary. It
will be a little less than going to work but paying for
childcare. so.. ya i'm not too worried. i just really hate
the whole job hunt thing.

If I had my time again I'd be a joiner. All you have to do
is raise your hand and someone will give you a job @ £50k a
year!

scientific research up there.

ya, i need to work to pay da bills.

i've started sending out my C.V. to a few places. haven't
heard anything yet. bioscience isn't something I am totally
in love with, but i don't hate it. it's at least
interesting and even, at times, exciting. but if i could
make money watching movies or making music or something, of
course i'd prefer that. i guess i'll look into jobs in those
fields too while i'm on my job search. maybe turn some of
my netflix movie reviews into proper full length reviews and
submit them to the local paper... ya why not?

Do 'er up, that would be a swell little gig to land, between
jobs breeding mutants or reanimating corpses or whatever it
is you bioscientists do.

"Hanging on the goverment teet" won't make you happy in the
least bit, its there if you need it for a short time to help
you get back on your feet. Your wife and your daughter trust
that you will be the man that you need to be.

Live is full on unpredictabilities and stuggles.
Good luck friend.

You only have power over people as long as you don't take
everything away from them. But when you've robbed a man of
everything he's no longer in your power -- he's free again.
