I want to listen to some jungle/drum'n'bass.
Nothing too cheesy, but typical can be good craic.

Any suggestions?

don't forget 'engineers without fears'! get raw!

and Johnny L - Piper - can't remember if thats just the
track name or the album. but the cover is blue and it's this
really cool ambient drum n bass with the sound of
shorebreaks and things.

i still can't get my hands on that stuff we were listening
to in jackman's car. that was class stuff.

'arsonists' wasn't it?

there's a rap group of the same name, and can't filter out
the search results for them.. :/

get yer hands on some

-KrinJah-

made some great jungle tracks from classic reggae tunes,
like:
classic burial
furlong
squeeze
return

"me say me ready fo return,
all dem wicked man skin a get burned
me have the life and table a turned
true dem do badness and never wan learn."

great tunes are also done by

-General Malice-
-soundmurderer-
-congo natty- (kinda dnb)

those -amen andrews- eps by luke vibert were also ace
especially #2+3

oh and get -tester- "jah love all people"
great message in there

and if thats not enough simply get all "ragga/jungle
anthems" compilations, classic material in general on all
the jungle samplers, some might be cheesy though.
for drum and bass: if you have soulseek just type in "sour"
and see what happens... :)

my fav dnb is noisia and ed rush and optical

somebody stop me or ill list all the tracks i have, please!

I feel motivated to ask a couple of questions here too.

What is jungle?
What is drum n' bass?
What is Drill n' Bass?
And what is that kind of thing that Venetian Snares is
into?

Squarepusher and similar is drill n' bass, but does VSnares
count as drill too?

And what's the difference between drum and jungle?

The questions may seem a little amateur, and
oh-so-non-xltronic, but what the hell, I never seem to get a
grasp on the difference between jungle and drum n' bass
anyway.

And a question concerning quantum mechanics ... I know the
planck scale is divided in two in a space-time-vortex, but
does it still permit cosmic expansion?

nah, I'm just messing with ya, and I'm feeling a little
bored. And hungry too ... a little ...

But seriously, what's the difference between drum and
jungle?

:D

no big difference..jungle beats are perhaps somewhat more
tribal..maybe

offline AphexAcid from Sweden on 2007-03-15 09:34 [#02062563]

I (thought I) made a drum n' bass-track way back in the
days, with the classical "bom-kang-chiki-bom-bom-kang"-beat
and all, but a reviewer who heard it called it jungle, so
I'm clueless.

offline thatne from United States on 2007-03-15 09:35 [#02062564]
Points: 3026 Status: Lurker

isnt jungle straight up out of jamaica
originally with sped-up ragga riddims
whereas drumnbass is stripped-down
of vocals and often melody and just
has the titular elements, drum & bass?

drillnbass is even faster jungle or drum
nbass with more spectacular program
ming. venetian snares sort of does drill
nbass in a drukqs style but in mostly
7/4 time and is termed metal breakcore.

"bom-kang-chiki-bom-bom-kang"

taht doesn't loop too well... so maybe it was drill?

metal breakcore haha that's a new one

i agree with how you see relation between jungle and dnb

Oh, sorry, blaaard, it's actually two 'chik':s.

bom = bass-drum
kang = snare
chiki = that little chiki-sound

Bom-kang-chiki-chiki-bom-kang

in jungle the snares and chikis are more like a melody to
the bass guitar of the reggae tunes that are mixed in,
wherein drum and bass rythms are quite steadily the same and
the rolling basslines and synths make the melodies

both are great but a good jungle track based on a solid
reggae melody or with ragga toasting and dubby delay effects
every now and then makes me really go mental

thats why i like drum and bass parties with mc´s better
they really get you going

Well, yeah, there's that beat too.

But on a personal note I'm not to fond of a chiki right
after the first bassdrum. I'm not being ironic here. :)

Though, I'm not that serious either.
