i just saw a cow being slaughtered on t.v. ew. i've always
thought veggies were a bit daft, but i sure wouldnt like to
be a cow. i'm not sure i'll be able to eat meat for a while.
this makes me a total hypocrite but then whats new...

i stopped eating red meat on christmas when we had a lamb
for dinner.

not just lamb, _a_ lamb, just its torso tired up and thrown
in an oven. freaked me out.

birds are okay to eat tho because theyre stupid... and ugly.

Yeah, go for it. I became a semi-vegetarian last week. Semi
meaning, I'll eat meat if someone puts a plate of it in
front of me. Etiquette n' all. I needed a change of pace
though and I felt sorry for animals.. plus I was eating at
McDonalds around 3 or 4 times a week.. which, from what I
gather, isn't healthful.

you can only be a vegetarian if you are privileged enough to
be able to choose. in poorer countries you just have to eat
whats there and not be so fucking fussy. the option of
vegetarianism is a luxury.

Only if it's cannibalism: The definition of murder is the
killing of a human, by a human (unlawfully).

why isnt fish considered meat? does it have to come from a
terrestrial vertebrate to be called meat?

we (me and a girl) recentlie decided not to eat meat. just,
eh, because 1) poor cows 2) meat costs a bit more than i'd
like it to.

i think i could go veguitarioso much earlier if my fellow
vegetarians and vegans wouldn't have annoyed me so much that
I ate meat just to annoy them back.

(ees grammer OK in the next sentence?) How nice it would be
if people didn't have to eat at all. This is fucking boring
already. Buying, choosing, washing, cutting, boiling,
simmering, frying -> defecating.

eating is great!
if only you could enjoy breathing like you enjoy eating.
life would be so fun

it really is all or nothing with vegetarianism if youre in
it for ethical reasons. all farmed markets involve killing:
and yet the fish markets are under the greatest threat. but
i do believe it is natural for humans to consume all kinds
of meat, and that there is no cause for judgement by
extremist vegetarians as to what is right and wrong.
personally i draw the line now on animal products that do
involve deliberate and excessive suffering, such as foie
gras, or the consumption of live animals.

yes, eating is great. i do enjoy it when i'm hungry.
but it is an obligatory routine activity. takes some time
and efforts..

ok, i don't have any more thoughts on this matter )

thats a tough one though isnt it. even if you go out and buy
eggs and poultry that is labelled 'free range', the
likelihood is that the chickens are still not running around
in luxuriously large pens. so is the solution to completely
abstain from chicken and eggs? i dont think thats realistic
...

i live on a chicken farm, and have been to two others. all
three keep their chickens in pretty good conditions - a bit
crowded when inside maybe but a massive field for them to
run around in outside.

over summer theres always a few running round my back garden
and they are free to do so.
dunno about other farms though. commercial farms are
probably different.

yeah my friend's family keeps chickens, and feed them well.
every so often ill get a dozen eggs and they taste out of
this world. especially compared to some eggs ive bought or
had in hotels, with tiny flavourless yellow yolks.

home sweet home. i love it.

the only downside is the roads, with potholes that destroy a
new set of tyres within 3 months and the fact that the roads
literally wash away in a storm, leaving mushy puddles that
flood your engine and making transport impossible except by
tractor. if you can put up with the occasional isolation,
its amazing.

I worked at a abotoir and I don't eat meat anymore, I've got
nothing against the taste, but the texture of meat now makes
me want to throw up, there were heaps of vegetarians that
work there, the gutting room smells pretty bad.

sheep are really cute animals and i can imagine having one
as a pet. pigs are the same, they are just as intellectual
as dogs. they like to have fun, run around playing, chasing
each other. but then i'm at a braai and the meat has been
marinating in a sauce for hours and it comes out all juicy
and flavourful then you kind of forget these sentiments. i
have some friends who are vegeterians. some do it for health
reasons, others do it because they simply don't like the
taste of meat.

I just watched "Kill it, Cook it, Eat it". I can see what
you mean i_x_ten; it's really affected me. I've always had a
problem eating pigs, though, because they do behave as
intelligently as pigs and people have kept them as pets and
actually developed bonds with them.

they are bred to be killed and eaten. that is the only
reason they exist. to not eat their meat would mean they
lived and died for no reason at all.

You could farm humans and say the same thing. Or rear them
as slaves and claim that they're MEANT to be slaves; that
that is their purpose.

I've been meat free for a little over 2 years now... It's
amazing that about a week after I stopped, my body felt
lighter, not in terms of weight, but almost cleaner or
something. Now I'm a big hypocrite, because I eat fish,
eggs, milk, and cheese. Not to mention cigarettes, weed,
and others sometimes. Oh well...

one unmentioned reason to be veggie is:

to deliver people (many of them livin in the first world)
with meat, huge amounts of crops and so are needed.
therefore lots of forest and jungle is being cut down (also
for letting cattle destroy and desertify the landscape),
plus huge amounts of water are used for the wheat. in most
countries this doesnt help the people at all, neither it
helps our planet to stay the beautyful place it is

in short terms: meat costs our planet
and the people livin on it lots of ressources
