Music for upcoming computer game

Hi, I've been working full time for the past year on an
indie computer game called Brass Hats.

It's a turn-based strategy game loosely based on WWI. It
plays similarly to Advance Wars, Panzer General, Military
Madness/Nectaris, Empire, etc..

Here's a screenshot, and here's some basic info.

I've come to the point where I need music and sound effects.
I've decided to try a retro video game style for the music,
since I thought it would match the pixel art visual style.

The game needs 4 songs, in russian, french, british, and
german styles. I've started working on a russian themed
song, and I'd like some feedback.

fun little diddle, i don't really like the drums though...
you should try famitracker, it gives you an authentic NES
soundchip emulation to work with.

here's a tune i made in it (i'm a noob).

Thanks for the comments. What about the drums don't you
like? The drum sounds, the patterns..?

i think the drums need to be more 8 bit as well as the
synth.

either try out that nes soundchip emulation above, or even
just a bitcrusher over the drums may give it the little
crunch it needs.

Here's an updated version of the russian tune:
jkd_russian_05.mp3

And here's an idea I had for the french tune, which is a
video-game-ized Erik Satie piece: jkd_french_01.mp3

the 2nd one is excellent. I like the first too; not sure if
it'd be great for looping eternally in a game that takes
kind of a long time (its good but might get annoying after
awhile)- the 2nd one would work great looped for awhile
though. Also the 'boom tss psh tss' drums in the first- the
'tss''s should be maybe 1/2 the time length or maybe 1/4.

Here's what I've got so far for the british / scottish tune:
jkd_bagpipes_03.mp3

Any comments? Any ideas on where the song could go next?

Those are some very great tunes, but I think they fit more
as theme songs for like.. intro screens and whatnot for each
level, or however it works. The french song can work good as
background music, but the others drive your attention to the
melody, which makes playing the game a bit annoying.
Where I'm getting is that game background music should be
more ambient. But then again, your stuff still rocks. Keep
it up.
