If you start off with an mp3 of someones, and you wish to remix it in any way shape or form - how do you do this? I can create songs fine, but whats always passed me by was remixing stuff..... im using Reason and Cubase..... how can I work this out? Tell me the steps.... the procedure I need to know cause Im probably going to be remixing a few songs for a remix project of a band I really like.

No idea. I actually got asked by a mate to remix a tune by his band, that was last year, and i still havent done it. Alas.
CuBase is the best for it.

Get goldwave and convert to .WAV. Yes it will be a giant ass of a file. But then you can crop sections of the song and extract them and go from there.

Use sound forge, I think theres one for mac. The best way I've learned to remix for a band is to have all the different tracks (Drums, Guitars, vocals) all seperate, but without knowing the person directly thats dificult.

Reflex .. you can convert mp3's to aiff in iTunes - no need for other applications.
there is no "specific" way to do a remix. the handiest would be if you have all the midi tracks and audio files (seperate) but seeing this is unlikely
.. you should be able to get a freebee vst plug in off www.databaseaudio.co.uk which will work out the bpm of the track/s you want to remix .. forget what its called .. by a french company tho. this is v useful if you're going do to some serious chopping .
otherwise/um or beforehand .. you might want to import several compies of the same aiff track into cubase (depending how many different parts you want to isolate) .. place them on different channels and then with the eq mute the parts you don't want featuring on there .. ???

You wont be able to separate it into parts yourself. When people remix they get all the original files. All you will be able to do is chop the actual song up and use some of the original sounds that way. You cant separate sounds out of an audio file.
