was reading about the sad saga of Buzz recently - how they
lost the source code and it'll never be updated again.
Anyways like a fool I want to take a look at its corpse.
Buzzmachines.com is not redirecting properly for me - is
there a mirror where you can download it?

it's a shame

I downloaded it once a loooong time ago but couldn't get my
head around the modular nature of it so I deleted it. Too
bad because it looks so interesting!

i used it tracking my own noises and would use on track in
the sequencer for each sound/pattern, was a good time

Buzz was always fun to work in. It never sounded great
though. I have heard some people work miracles in it though.

buzz was more unstable than a wheelchair on pogo stick.
shame. could have been great tings.

still can't find any info on that loosing-sourc-code-thing
but whatever.

it looked at it ages ago but shortly after that i stumbled
about reaktor and it just sounded a lot better.

but i mean you cannot even compare those programs - i mean
buzz is completely freeware and reaktor has it's price

Yes, and reaktor has the cusom interface thing, the freely
assignable controllers and math functions. I would say buzz
was a lot closer to reason than it was reaktor.

on the other hand reaktor still lacks some very important
option: support for external devices like vst plugins.

Yes. Personally, the one thing I could ask for from reaktor
would be the ability to compile its patches into their own
VST plugins or executables.

But yeah, Buzz is an awesome program. I've used it solidly
for the last 7 or so years and I'm still finding out new
stuff from it (Particularly with the Peer machines). All our
albums have been made using nothing but Buzz Spamety spam, click here
so take a listen and see what you think.

fuck, I forgot this place had no EDIT button. I meant to add
that people are trying [and quite successfully] to rewrite
Buzz from scratch:

Aldrin - Buzz for Linux (http://trac.zeitherrschaft.org/aldrin/)

Buzé - The latest remake project for Win32
(http://trac.zeitherrschaft.org/buze/)

BuzzRMX - An attempt to make a 1:1 remake of Jeskola Buzz
(but stable) (http://www.buzzrmx.com/)

wtf is wrong with this installation
it's hectic, it's soo much read, it's annoying, it's long,
and why oh why allow users to uninstall it right after
installing it?

Aha, thanks for the link!

It looks like it was designed by a committee of anarchists.
All strange options and weird workarounds. And now it only
crashes instead of opening. :-(

I will try some of the clones.

I tried a Buze trial version last year and I liked it
although it still had tons of bugs to fix. And yeah, it was
tragic about the Buzz saga with Oskari Tammelin(?) losing
the source code and whatnot. He really could have made
that program flawless given enough time.. now we have to
rely on clones. The original still works best for me
though.

fleetmouse: There's all kinds of fixkits and bug reports out
there.. that might help clear up that crashing issue, if the
original is what you're after.

Mainly I'm interested in a modular VSTi host. I was hoping
Buzz would be stable and elegantly simple, but it's uggily
complex and crash prone so I don't know it it's worth
pursuing...

What I'd really like is a free Plogue Bidule clone.

there was a new app called Buzé (I think) which had a way
better interface than Buzz and was mostly compatible, though
it crashed every time I exited.

Try Psycle, it's an open source Buzz spinoff, I use it quite
often and produce all my music using it, it's not flawless
nor frequently updated but it does the trick. Plus, if you
have some knowledge of C you can code your own plugins for
it, which is fun.

If I remember correctly the programmer had a power
failure/surge/or something in his house.
