I've gone on a bit of a John Adams binge, and I'd just like to recommend him to all you beautiful xltronickers. It's mostly very fun and exciting music, although I find his newer stuff less enjoyable and sometimes even a bit dull. Check out the cd with "Harmonielehre", "The Chairman Dances" and "Two Fanfares"; I think they're his most enjoyable works.
It's a bit more romantic and full-on and less minimalist sounding then composing-people like Mr.Reich and Terrence Riley and Phil Glass.

I've been listening to the generic Naxos cd of his quite a lot recently. Shaker Loops is really interesting. And the opera piece, The Wound Dresser - there's something really haunting about that. I recommend that piece very very much. Not so interested in the Short Ride for a Fast Machine which people seem to like a lot...
I've heard his 9/11 piece was a bit shit.
CS2x, do you know anything of his that is like Shaker Loops (if you've heard that one?)?

Yeah, I got a CD with some orchestral Steve Reich works and "Shaker Loops" on it too, and I love that piece. It's quite simple in comparison to his other stuff, but it has a really wonderful, forward-moving optmistic atmosphere. I love to listen to it while I'm driving or on the train. :-)
