Dubstep. Grime. Ghettotech. Mashup.
[view flyer here]
The dancefloor is getting NASTY March 16th. That's right, Scuba, head of the revered dubstep & breakstep label Hotflush, is hitting LA with a ton of bass weight! With his labels and productions currently setting the scene on fire, SoCal is in for a treat of massive proportions..
Joining this badman on the bill are the city's finest. The Glitch Mob serves up a mean dish of crunk/mashup flavors.. plus something I know all you dub souljas will appreciate... heavy, heavy BASS. they've been tearing it up all over the place lately.. just have a look at their calendar!!
then there's Baseck who has told me he plans on putting the breakcore on hold for a ruff 'n' grimey set... oh my.
Ricky Def and I (Staypuft DJ) are taking special precautions to break every rule in the book... TLC & Benga? R Kelly & Oris Jay? Loefah & Ready for the World? Distance & Dixie Chicks??!? hearing is believing...
and if you know SMOG at all you know DJ Unit and how he throws down. serious high energy business.
links ahoy: SCUBA GLITCH MOB BASECK STAYPUFT DJ DJ UNIT
the sounds will be running deep for the entirety of the evening! best you don't miss out..

Ready for the World's "Oh Shelia" is one of my favourite songs ever, so I hope you haven't fucked it up (in a bad way).

Minimal techno meets UK Garage meets dark ambient meets dnb meets dub.
As to defining it, it's pretty difficult, it's one of the most diverse genres I've come across, which considering how young it is, is incredible. Best thing would be to check out some dubstep tracks and work it out for yourself.
Must hear tracks:
Kromestar - Surgery Pinch - Qawwali DJ Distance - Fallen Burial - Night Train Skream - Midnight Request Line
Less anthemic and from lesser known artists, but also some of my personal favourites are:
Matty G - Bitter Love Geiom - Feel so bad Scarecrow - Taken Monkeysteak - Lighthouse Dub
Done well, it achieves that most rare of qualities; rinsin' on a big soundsystem and worth listening to at home too.
NB: If you don't have a half decent sub on your machine, listen to it on decent headphones, or you probably won't hear the bass at all. Please don't be one of these saps who listens to a few tracks on laptop speakers and then writes off the whole genre. ;)
