"Scrubs" : Television

I rarely watch television. When I do though, some shows I
like are Myth Busters and the weather. Lately, I've been
catching this sitcom called "Scrubs". What do you think of
it? I think it's really witty and clever. Probably I could
start watching sitcoms if all of them were like this.

I don't much like it and I really can't stand that guy, or

think was amazing.

Fuck that shit - saying "oh it's 'cool' to hate" so-and-so

the people who dislike are being that way only to garner

if you agree with me, why dont you just say you hate it like
you should have instead of defending it? i mean whats the
point here? why are you questioning reasons to hate a show
that you yourself hate to some extent?

Maybe because what some people find endearing or amusing,
others find contrived and irritating? I'm sure there are
many things I like which others don't (Bill Murray, Jazz,
Pavement, Classical Music to name just a smattering of my
likes which have been deeply questioned recently). That's
life, and it's good as long as one group doesn't force their
own likes & dislikes onto other groups, ie become
Republicans ho ho ho.

offline DirtyPriest from Copenhagen (Denmark) on 2007-02-20 15:39 [#02052755]

I don't hate it at all. I agree with marlowes point, that it
was wrong of me to defend it, by saying that it's "cool to
hate it".

I like scrubs. It has some great characters. It's sort of
chick flicky i admit, but it's brilliant watching curled up
with my best girl in the sofa... ah.

You're right... Although i like Bill Murray as well. I would
say i agree with what you say actually, but still.... Theres
still this thing, when people discuss culture. It's like,
when someone discovers something a little different, they
suddenly hate everything "mainstream". Fuck, if it's good,
it's good. Fuck mainstream, as in that endless load of MTV
crap. But quit hating stuff, just because it's popular.
That's my 2 cents, and when i say stuff like that, i
sometimes hit people like you, who obviously made up your
OWN damn mind, instead of someone, who essentially did the
MTV thing over again, and succumbed to a new "correct" indie
taste, if you get my drift.

I understand what you mean - I've met plenty of people who
hate something based on popularity rather than actual worth.
I've also been lumped into that category so many times,
especially by my daughter's mother, who regularly infuriates
me because I don't like the shit music she does (Fallout
Boy, Panic At The Disco, The Killers etc), and claims it's
because I hate anything mainstream. At which point I call
her soulless cunt and either tell her to get the fuck out,
or hang up the phone.

i can honestly say i hate around 90 percent of what is
considered mainstream - am i in the category where i hate
things when they become popular?

fucking damn it! why do people keep on insisting thats a bad
thing? am i missing out on all the scrubs fun? i don't know,
is there a magic thing i dont get about all this?

i mean, the funny thing is that around 90 percent of the
time im being called a narrowed minded cunt in consideration
to music, its by some random guy who accidently listens to
rock music and likes a few electronic tracks. most of the
time i know around 80 percent of the bands he know plus lets
say roughly 5000 more that he doesnt.

im sure im not alone in this situation.

do you think that, in principle, you would always have just
as much affinity for something whether it was mainstream or
not? I think the way I'm introduced to something has an
effect on my final judgement, which is stupid but it
happens. And there are people who like underground stuff
just for the sake of it.

It might be a good thing, i don't know. I think therse a lot
of creativity and inspiration in hate, and letting some
steam of on stuff that you despise. Hate can be catharsis.

The only things (I can think of) which will negatively
affect my enjoyment of a particular musician/band outwith
the music itself is:

a) if it is used in an advertisement

b) I read/hear/watch an interview/piece on them and they
come across as pricks, self-worshippers, pretentiously
self-important or otherwise disagreeable characters.

Apart from that, it's the merit (or lack of) of the music
itself upon which I base my opinion.

Scrubs has an occasional decent moment, but I rather dislike
the show. I can't stand when it gets all sentimental on me.
That stupid Elliot always gets offended at something every
episode. That stupid black doctor and his girlfriend always
get into some small dispute that I couldn't care less about
(one time she ate one of his fries -or crisps to you brits-
and this caused them to not speak to eachother for the whole
episode).

Then there is always this montage scene towards the end set
to emotional crappy punk music. J.D. holding that needy
bitch Elliot. The black doctor and his girlfriend looking at
each other in the eye, after making up. Dr. Cox looking
through the glass at a terminally ill child.

Just keep the sentiment out of comedy please. That's why
Seinfeld is a winner.

Believe me, when I first joined aphextwin.nu, I thought
Aphex Twin was the messiah of music. I had been a huge fan
since about 1993 and one of my finest drug moments was
listening to the SAWII double-album in the dark whilst
mashed on mary-jane.

But, that sell-out cunt has left me disillusioned & jaded. I
mean, Bank of America! (BOA like the constrictor as Robert
Anton Wilson once noted). No excuses. I think I've listened
to about 3 of his tracks in the past two years.

Would you turn that kind of money down? I could live with
internet geeks calling me a sellout, if i didn't have to
work for the rest of my life.

I've been asked that question quite recently here: the
answer, as then & always, is yes, I would refuse. I have
principles. It's not the internet "geeks" you answer to,
it's your conscience. I'm afraid I was born in an earlier
age, when money wasn't the prime (and for some, sole,)
reason for living. It's a shame that we are living in an age
when money & consumerism are the twin Idols of Society, but
I suppose degradation is one of the key indicators of a
society on the decline & on the way to extinction, which, I
believe, we are.
