New Alva Noto - Xerrox

I just found out about this and I thought some people here
might be interested in it also. Alva Noto will be releasing
a new album called Xerrox Vol. 1 on Raster-Noton on the 3rd
of March. There's no mention of it on the Raster site but
pictures and the tracklisting are on alvanoto.de.
Apparently the album will be released on "CD, LP, and SD
card." There's also a track from the album on his
myspace page. It's very beautiful and very different from
anything else I've heard from him.

oooo! The track there sounds great!

What the fuck is an SD card?

Secure Digital, I would assume. It seems like a weird
medium to release music on... Does anyone know if any other
labels have released music in this format?

The barenaked ladies are releasing their next album on a
thumb drive. But they suck, so its kind of like a step
backward in some respects.

I love the layout of his myspace page. Thats kind of like
how I would have mine, minus the showy music player and
comments, if I actually cared enough to put the work into
it.

And that music sounds truly beautifull. You can really hear
how he has come along as an artist. He has taken his
appreciation for tonal structures and really flushed it out
with atmosphere.

You should also check out Kangding Ray's debut album
"Stabil" on Raster Noton. Very nice music will be heard if
you click here

sounds good! are you sharing so I can see if I should buy
the release?

btw, I had a suggestion in your aim thread.

releases?

normally I dislike all this clickity clack music on raster
noton.
however, this track sounds nice. if the complete album is
like this I might even buy it.

now he's trying to sound like tim hecker?

wtb?

great track nevertheless

I supposed you mean WTF not WTB

I don't think he is trying to be tim hecker. This sounds
like a logical evolution from his previous material. I don't
actually like tim hecker very much. I like the sound of
this.

after seeing insen live i came to the conclusion id stay
away from the whole clickety minimal kinda stuff. the only
songs i really enjoyed was the encore, which i then found
out was their latest ep played from start to end.
and listening to this song, i actually really enjoy it.
looks like im gonna get back into this stuff again .. *sigh*
: )

i love this new track. it actually gave me an extremely deep
vivid dream state when i was lying down. like, an alternate
frequency of reality, and all these beings innocently
enjoying our cities and places and realities by themselves,
in another fragmented reality. like at the end of the silent
hill movie where they didnt get home, but they reached home.
something like that.

Alva Noto is like a clickety FSOL for me. Organic, fucking
chilly, relaxed.

just silly

offline cx from Norway on 2007-03-13 19:03 [#02061988]

it's good good..

i think the memory card is a statement of the future. that
we can release music on a more stable and robust format,
compared to cds which can get scratched a lot.
a memory card is more "futuristic", so i don't think it's
silly really.

With music released on SD cards, having a collection
spanning the whole wall really means something.

I'm getting my copy of it right away as I write =) Plus be
getting some more releases from Raster-Noton. I just love
that minimal sound and their art imo is beautiful =) I'm
collecting them all as they are released. I like the music
of mr Carsten Nicolai and their friends =) Cheeers!!!!

the myspace song (Haliod Xerrox Copy 111 (Iner)) is still my
favourite. i dont know what it is, but its such a refreshing
song for me.
its an all round great release, but i just help it but to
regard it as background music..

He nailed it perfectly.

YES! yes, this is a great album. I've got two of his other
cds which I don't care for so much. I'm really not too into
most minimal shit, a lone BEEP, followed by a short hiss
every 15 seconds is the worst kind of electronic music. I
hate that shit.

But something went very right here with Xerrox. The big
tracks are brimming with feeling. They contain the sort of
melody that strikes you on an emotional level, but you can't
really pinpoint WHAT emotion. Hard to describe.

I'd agree with Pigster here, Haliod Xerrox Copy 111 (Iner)
is the track to beat.

beginning.

could you possibly select the two tracks most descriptive of
it and mail them to me? Thinking of getting it, but I've
already got quite a bit of stuff on order, so if it isn't a
"must have right now!!!" album, I can wait.

listen during journey :)

wonderful.

I'm still listening to this on a daily basis.
Well, nightly.

It's been the soundtrack to my dreams for the past month.
I wake up and don't even realize it's playing, it becomes
part of the atmosphere.

When I ride my bike into town listening to this album,
passing construction sites, the highway, and crowded
streets, everything becomes so seamlessly intertwined.
I get this profound sense of a "life goes on.." kind of
feeling.
I'll shut up, for now..

It really is staggering just how superb this album is. I
play it pretty much every day now. Haliod Xerrox Copy 1 is
just the most beautiful thing ever.
