I will buy this because I did genuinely like the samples,
like a darker, looser Massive Attack without fear of Sinead
O'Connor lurching in.

Hi hanal, thanks for the mention. :-)

Dannn, the front cover is actually a microscopic photo of a
crystal solution by my dad. He takes a lot of these pictures
by mixing up various vitamins and other chemicals. My
myspace has a few others he's taken. Some people aren't too
keen on the cover, but I really like it.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Makes all that time spent
making it even more worthwhile. :-)

In case any of you are about in London and have absolutely
nothing better to do, I'm playing live with a drummer and
bassist on the 2nd of March (supporting Pest off Ninja Tune)
and on the 23rd, which is the album launch party.

Haven't heard the entire album yet, but 'In Suspension'
blows my mind. It's got structures that I can only call
experimental. Very fresh rhythms as I've never heard
anything like it. Like a bunch of seamlessly endless
patterns working together just to stay structured. Very
caper. Can't wait to order a copy of this Rob, good job!

I think a number of online stores will ship to America. :-)

The distribution got a bit mucked up and it's ended up not
being in the shops it should be in the UK. Slowfoot is
finding a new distributor.....

Just got my copy and had to say how impressed I was.

Rob, this album is immense in every respect, an authentic
atmosphere so meticulously layered and unified as a whole
that I had to refrain myself from going back a track to
indulge again, as I wanted my first listen to be thorough. I
love how the tracks blend into one another, it wouldn't feel
right just to select some track and listen to it at random
after hearing it in it's entirety, albeit they are great
stand alone tracks.

Professional flow, emotional melodies, detailed beat
structures, massive soundscapes, all in all, congs on
Cognessence!

As soon as the copy I ordered arrives in the post I will rip
it to FLAC and upload it to every p2p torrent pirate booty
bay on the web without even having listened to it to
ensure Robert Logan never receives another penny for his
efforts because, clearly, he does not deserve it.

Another penny? Production costs have barely been met
yet! Things have been rather slow-footed in that area of
things (har, har.)

I must say, I'm trembling with fear at the thought of your
copy arriving. I can see a terrible collection of words; a
destructive cacophony of deviously-written sentences that'll
tear down any shred of a desire to make music ever again.
But honestly, I hope that you do actually enjoy the thing.
Thanks for getting it.

Well I've heard the samples and it sounds great so I am sure
I will like the whole thing, and even on the off chance
that, in a Babylon Zoo style, it starts of good then rapidly
descends in dirgey bollocks I won't write a bad review or
say anything. I'll just relabel "The Very Worst of Grinning
Ape" as "Robert Logan new album leak" and stick that on the
net.

There you go, I got this in the post this morning. This is
phenomenal, an absurdly accomplished, layered, shifting,
flowing, unique electronic / organic epic. The first track
sets it all up with its blend of ominous, paranoic textures,
dispossesed vocal snatches and its nervous, insidious
rhythm. It makes me think of a vastly improved "Mezzanine"
by Massive Attack. Where that album is all spidery and
uneven, thin guitars and dominant bass, this is a far more
satisfying and expansive blend of sound.

I'm no World Music buff so I don't know if it's Eastern
influences or Hungarian Gypsies crashing the party at times,
but those elements only briefly drift in and out so I'm not
left feeling like the utter ignoramous I am. The one thing
better than an album with a killer opening trackis one that
follows it with an even better one. Second track "Budapest"
is just incredible, elegiac, it makes me think of Plaid in
structure but again it seems to sound far fuller and varied
without being "fussy" and doesn't annoy me in the way that
they do.

I like the way the tracks leak into each other, it ebbs and
flows, the mood darkening and lightening throughout the
duration. I think it was a bold move to put the lightness
and funk of "Pop" on there, which still works in context due
again to its layers and depth, and ithe way it's lured back
to the dark in the final third. Closer "Proto Lexicon"
rivals "Quino-phec" for stunned, ambient wash out finale.
Truly an astonishing, unique sounding, highly accomplished
album by a young lad obsessed with dead rats.

Robot Log-on - "The Essence of Congs"
10 Belches (and a bonus follow through) out of 10

Thank you very much for your words. It was all getting quite
depressing, the things going on this past year; I'm
surprised I haven't ended up in a mental hospital. When
people enjoy music you've worked hard at, it's a wonderful
cure.

I also had a very enjoyable album launch party tonight; got
a lot of people dancing to live versions of Cognessence
tracks with a drummer and synth bassist (I expected ten
people to show up and then boo me off.) They didn't let me
play that David Attenborough video clip of a decaying rat in
the backround, though. :-(

Apparently my friends have seen it up on some bit torrent
programs/sites. Oh well, at least more people will get to
hear it. Anyway, if any of you are up for it/can be
bothered, Slowfoot think releasing a shorter EP with a track
from the album (maybe Lost Highway, but perhaps not) with
remixes and an extra new track would be a good idea, in a
few months maybe. So if any of you fancy doing any remixing,
be my guest.
