 What is an "Electrosonic Apollo"?
A friend got one from where he works. We're trying to figure out what it is. It has a cassette deck, power in, 3 power out, some cables that look like midi cables, and some other shit (it screams about its "dissolve" capability, as does the one website that we found it on sale for e1800). It's a pretty heavy piece of equipment too. We figure it might be used to control light shows..?

  Any ideas?

You know like in "Diamonds are Forever" Blofeld uses a common or garden cassette with codes on it and places it in a big mainframe thing to control his laser satellite, maybe it's one of those

Being a Bond nut, would you be interested in buying one of these laser satellite control systems for the meagre sum of 1200 euro? It is, no doubt, a rare piece of engineering excellence, not to mention a part of film history.

it says it's an Audio/Video presentation unit
This leads me to believe that the dissolve feature is a simple fade/crossfade effect for video or something... it's also got an amp, and the three DIN in/outs are probably for multiple sources.

don't take my word for it, though... dissolve could be just about anything...

Maybe it is to control an audio-animatronic (robot). This is what I hope.

It is basically a mixer for slide shows and stuff...the tape deck is so you can play music as part of the presentation. The dissolve unit is basically a hardware special effects unit to do fancy transitions between the slides. It is obviously designed for use with two slide projectors so as to allow the smooth dissolve between slides and behind the scenes movement to the next slide on each projector.
