Miles Davis - Bitches Brew

I'm not a huge fan of jazz, but I gotta admit this album
kinda draws me in. I remember the first time I listened to
it I could hardly make any sense out of it and it just
seemed a mess, but slowly it's starting to fall into place
to my ears, and I just love the whole "rock" sound of it. I
gotta admit, this is probably the most difficult piece of
music I've ever listened to, but it's slowly revealing
itself to me. I own some other Miles Davis albums, Kind of
Blue included, but I find them a bit dull personally. This
album on the other hand just has such cool rhythm sound, and
a dark sinister type feel which I love.

Anyway, any other fans of Miles Davis and Bitches Brew here?

I've got the complete bitches brew sessions on CD and listen
to them regularly. They are fucking awesome. I love
Davis's work in general though.

if you like that check out 'In a Silent Way' and 'A Tribute
to Jack Johnson', the complete sessions of the latter
features some great blues jams.

ive also got the complete sessions. theyre absolutely
spectacular, my favorite jazz record by far.

interesting fact: none of the tracks were played as a whole
band. instead, each musician played and was recorded
seperately and davis meticulously arranged all the parts
together with tape.

complete sessions fan here as well. it must have been so
many lightyears ahead of the rest back when it was
originally released....and it still is. amazing

or as steve jobs would have said: revolutionary

miles davis is the only jazz i have. its more difficult to
listen to than your average autechre / venetian snares
release, imo. idefinately have to be in the right mood.

i never heard that the whole album was purely overdubs..
however, lots of effects and editing took place. it wasnt
miles who did the editing but teo macero.

"its more difficult to listen to than your average

> really? it's subjective but... which album(s) do you
have?

i have Kind Of Blue, Bitches Brew and Agharta. all three are
really different, but Agharta is the only one i'd qualify as
difficult; it's like an encompassing, evolving, funky magma
of sound. really good but demanding.

i was at a friends house a few weeks ago and a track from
big fun came one and i kept bouncing back and forth going,
"this must be off of bitches brew.... but i don't
really recognize it... but it has to be!"

at least i got the artist right and didnt seem like a
complete tool. ill have to check it out properly soon.

love it :) dunna about you, tolstoyed, but supersilent
experiments remind me of bitches brew sessions, especially
their "5" and "6" albums.

well, they play fusion of rock and jazz as well, so yeah, it
can get pretty similar i reckon.
