how big portion of music you have, you still find enjoyable would you say?
i was going through my stuff last night, and i would say there's about 20% out of all the music i have, i still appreciate and listen to, then there's about 50% i found to be shit i'd never touch, and the other 30 % listenable, but not more than once per every 2 years.
i wonder if this will go on like this for ever, or will i ever obtain a better ratio..

with only a few pop-ish exceptions I still enjoy and listen to all my music from time to time. Of course it takes a while to get through it all, and the newest stuff gets the most airtime, but I still go back to the old occasionally.
To sum up I'd say my taste in music doesn't change. It may grow or evolve or something, adding new to old, but it doesn't change.

do you stick with what you know? i mean, how often do you check out artists you don't already know for example?

I've gradually gone from listening almost entirely to electronic music to listening to about 75% rock / indie / post-punk in 4-5 years. The electronic stuff I still listen to is mostly of the softer kind, and techno / electro.

i think i still like... maybe 90% of what i have. now there are albums i still like but not as much as i used to — usually because i know them by heart, having listened to them too much.

examples as in bands or genres? because i would have to go through again to give you a detailed answer on that :)
i like music/artists that are unique, ones who have their own sound
that 50% i'd never touch is mostly generic, bland music
and that 30% of listenable music are albums with couple of nice songs and not quite unique, but still nice.

I would say that mine also expands. I can never anything that i really liked behind properly. There are only a few times when that has happened.

I still enjoy all the music i've collected over the years, but I have a kind of musical ADD which means I need to listen to a completely different style of music every 15-30 minutes or so. Thankfully, I have a lot of music to listen to.

I'm still listening to my "back-catalogue" but I also have these "periods" where I'm llistening more to a certain kind of music. The last half year or so, I've been listening most to melancholic music. "Alternative" ambient and singer/songwritings. I'm always looking for something new, but I rarely bother to listen to music I don't know anything about, like people from this MB or totally unknown artists. There is a kind of pattern in it. I check out what kind of collaboration artists I know about have done, and artists at the same label, and so on. In that way, I always have a lot of music to listen to, and I'm rarely disappointed.

my tastes change all the time... About every month or so i'd say, but i definitely listen to electro the most. I tend to go from Prog Rock, to electro, to jazz, to Rock, to classical, to pop, to hip-hop, and so on!!!
I must have a few records that are getting dusty in my library, but i always come back to them at some point or another. Even though i adore discovering new things, i always go back to the good oldies to keep things fresh so to speak. :) good thread

It's usually pretty cyclical for me. So any cd in my collection I can usually put on at a given time and find it enjoyable. It usually just depends on my mood for what I listen to any given time.

My taste doesn't change all that much, it just expands. What I mean is, there are very few artists and styles from my past that I don't still enjoy. I'll move into a phase and focus on a certain genre or movement for a time, of course... but I tend to go back to what I know at some point, if only for a brief period. There's always more to hear even with sounds I'm already familiar with, sidepaths I might have overlooked.

i know what you mean..i do the same sort of. but then i think it has to do with changing taste as well, because i find so many new fascinating songs that those old ones that i might have found fascinating a year or 2 ago now seem somewhat dull..

That doesn't happen to me, but maybe it's because I'm a hopelessly nostalgic flake or something. There are a lot of artists I've been listening to for years that are still what I'd classify as my ''favorites'', even though I listen to them pretty much only on special occasions. Oh but what occasions they are.
