before the industrial revolution we built shit to last, because it was expensive to build it, so you wanted to do it right, plus, it left a sort of monument to the civilization that built it..
now a days, the machines we build, the structures we erect, the apparel we buy for ourselves and the information media we use is all stuff that is designed to fucking ROT real quick and be replaced with something more convenient promptly. that’s very good in one way because it is not a system that encourages stagnation, but it does have a problem: what if this civilization falls and we enter some kind of new dark age? what will be left of us? how will any civilizations not from Earth known anything about us? how will they listen to our music and watch our movies?

All that stuff that was built before the industrial revolution that was built so well--where is it? I'd like to have some.
