it's silly..one could make good money just with doing some random nonsense beats and then search for similar things in most popular music. nowdays everything in the greater part of pop music's been heard before..with slight variations at most.

Timbaland is the Madonna of fat beats! Only difference is, Madonna actually gives credit(s) to the artists she uses.

it only matters when it's some famous person's music that's ripped off?
what the fuck?

I used to have a lot of admiration for Timbaland, but I've realised recently how much of what he does is from sample CDs or other songs. I'm not against using sample CDs or samples from other songs, of course, but when you've respected someone like that, and then found out a lot of what they're doing it isn't built from the ground up, it can be a bit dissapointing. Just my opinion.
Oh, and those two songs do sound remarkably similar, although since there are only 12 different notes we can choose from, and since it is a really catchy sequence of notes, it could just be a coincidence. Or not.

I agree with you here. I hate it when people say it doesn't matter if the tune in question was just made by a nobody. Music is something precious and it deserves protection and respect whoever is producing it.
This happens more often then you'd expect, too. I've heard quite a few stories from smaller bands and artists who've had issues with bigger names nicking stuff just because they can.

you're saying it's just coincidence? and that timbaland programmed the melody and beat himself?
the timbaland songs are EXACTLY the same as the originals.. he just got someone to sing over them..
i can't believe i'm reading what i'm reading.

Agreed. It almost looks like the Timbaland corporation pays people to search the internet for music from unsigned artist which could be used in songs.
I have to admit though, that out of all the obscure crap that's out there, he recognizes the good stuff, tweaks some beats here and there, actually improving it..and voila, another million selling record! That's an art by itself. Slightly unethical, but art nevertheless.

i'm not talking about songs bearing similarity to one another.
he took a song, and didn't alter it AT ALL, and released it with a woman singing over it.

that 10 seconds there are so simple/basic anyone could do it..it's why i said probably 100 other people could also claim they've done the same bit. it's like doing a 4/4 10 seconds sequence with some basic fruity loop tone and then bitching about other people steal it from you..

Furtado was just another tool in Timbaland's pocket. But that's besides the point. The big difference between Timbaland and the Finnish dude would probably be, that the Finnish dude made this one nice track, almost by accident, and Timbaland has the vision to consistently make succesful copies.

Actually that 14 seconds there is directly sampled from a commodore 64 tune, just the bass/drums channel muted. I'd like to hear anyone here reproduce an identical piece with a c64.

How many unsigned artists would be worried that their track was being copied by Timbaland? Some would probably be honoured. It's not THAT bad to be good enough to be copied by the master-copier.

This is nothing. Timbaland took my wife, my kids, got me sacked from my job - I lost my house because of that stealing beaty merchant.
The Finninsh Producer should be thankfull Timbaland got away with just a tune here and there - he was one of the lucky ones!
Don't think badfully of Timberbland or he will steal your mind - and you might just hear your mind being raped on his next original (cough, cough) release by Nelly Tomato or his son Justin Timberland

that's kinda what i was thinking. it's definitly not a sample. and actually, you don't have to pay royalties for a reperformance of a track if the words are changed. for example, weird al yankovic does not have to pay royalties for his parodies.

"Despite such cases of Yankovic apparently backing down, parody is recognized as fair use under copyright laws, so he is actually free to parody any artist's work without permission. He apparently asks the permission of artists in order to maintain good relationships and avoid pointless lawsuits."
