Here

So I'm trying to figure out ableton live nowadays, and make
small tunes here and there. This one is also a test of some
NES-sounding VSTs and granulated noises.
If you ask me, it's pretty shit, but so far people liked it.
So listen and you might like it too.
Feed my back please.

Not bad, I like it.

Is it actually impossible to record midi CC data into a clip
in Ableton? I can only seem to record it into the session
which for me defeats the whole purpose of using Live.

Also I can't stand how turning off warping also turns off
looping. Dammit! Not everyone wants to color inside the
lines.

you can record it into a clip.just click the 'arm track'
button, record, hit record...

OK, I map midi CC 16 from my Doepfer pocket control to the
decay on a Simpler instrument, arm the track, hit record,
and nothing happens. It creates a clip with nothing in it.
Or more precisely, sometimes it creates a midi controller
with one flat value all the way across.

Experimenting further, I see that I can record automation
into a clip with VSTis that have midi learn, but not with
Simpler. That sucks. One of the reasons I'd like to use
Ableton is for the nice integrated instruments that don't
use tons of CPU.

I've recorded a few simple guitar and vocals things with it.
It's good for what it was designed for - recording or
importing audio and making it play in sync. Every time I try
to do something more complex I find a showstopper though,
and give up in annoyance. It's too bad, because it has its
good points and it's very stable at low buffer sizes.

it's just so painfully "idm" that it makes me wanna write
music on a one string guitar

Can you store a Simpler preset with a clip? I can associate
VSTi presets with clips but not native Ableton instruments.
This annoys me. Just to have different loop points for a
Simpler instrument with the same sample - that'd be nice. As
it is I have to create different channels for ifferent
Simpler presets. And then I'm working the scenes across
instead of up and down, which breaks the Live scene model.

Thanks for the one (or is it two?) comments about my music.
I guess this got derailed into ableton discussion now
instead. :D

Well in this thing I was generally testing Magical 8bit Plug
and some of the TweakBench VST's. More specifically
Toad, Peach and Minerva. Also, thanks!

zero-cool: I can't think of how to answer that question
haha.

live is good depending on what you are doing with it. it is
good for arrangement but i wouldn't use it too much for
sound processing. it's all about resampling.

Pretty much. Also, my CPU is kind of shit because when I add
not-that-much effects and have 6+ channels, the cpu usage
skyrockets.

live is good for recording

Yes, it is good for recording. Also for arranging and live
mixing. I'm too used to modular systems, where there's a
different mix of abilities and limitations. I can never seem
to find a host that doesn't feel like I'm doing a jigsaw
puzzle with my feet while wearing galoshes.

Live is a great program. I'd never need anything else to
create music.

That music you've made is awful, BTW.
