Even better. Get deep down and personal with your music,
exactly how it should be.

It looks stunning and I am very jealous of that man.

depends what kind of music it is.

i don't like it when i'm out and i'm introduced to music
that i've never heard before and it's really good and there
are people talking and shouting over it because they're
drunk.

waste of money. you could get the same quality for probably
1% of what that setup costs.

Like redrum says, it depends what kind of music it is. I
don't just listen to dancefloor music and many of my
favourite artists produce primarily for home/headphone
listening.

Yes, I agree that techno or electro is better suited to the
club, but that goes without saying really.

Wait, isn't a carpet supposed to absorb sound badly?

yeah, i agree with both of you, that obviously there
different types of music for different occasions,
social/personal/whatever, and yeah i guess i enjoy both too.
and by a social experience i would include home listening as
well... just to me that kind of setup seems excessive. i
don't know why but it just looks very hostile to me. i
dunno, but it just feels like its too much of a consciouss
effort to enjoy music.
no i'm not jealous.... 0_o

i get what you mean - it doesn't look like you can do
anything BUT listen to the music while sitting in that
chair..

i think that's the point.. and it can be a very enjoyable
experience.. but sure he has a laptop there, and if you're
so inclined, you could bring in a book and read it.

offline dave_g from United Kingdom on 2007-01-19 11:50 [#02034544]

why can't someone just build a room as a speaker cabinet and
sit inside it? Maybe a large shed, cut open one side and
implant 100 speakers. sit inside and enjoy. even has the
option of being a ported design by leaving the door open.

That room is nice, but I would not want one, it's a bit too
clinical. I'd much rather have a room which can have
multiple people in and a decent hifi system and lets you
listen to music and do other things as well, and I don't
mean fiddle around on a laptop.

that set up would make about 99% of your music sound like
shit anyway. sure that room has everything set up fucking
tits, but that's only one end of the medium. there's also
the recording, mixing, and mastering process that can limit
overall quality of sound. this would only make any flaw
during any step of that process more apparent. besides
there's a limit in range to what our sense of hearing can
even pick up. a lot of that money just went in one ear and
out the other, completely wasted. although, i'm sure all
that custom carbon fiber was at least half the cost of the
entire system. so i can't call it a total loss.

maybe a easier analogy would be to say you have a high def
plasma screen tv with built in hd reciever but if the
fucking prgram you're watching wasn't filmed in high def nor
is it even broadcast in high def the result on your high def
plasma sreen tv is no better than a 50 year old tube
emitting cathode rays. in other words if the "medium", in
this case television signal, is not properly recorded and
transmitted it doesn't matter how much your fucking tv
cost. if it starts out as shit it'll still end up as shit.
hence the previous reference to recording, mixing, and
mastering. there, better now?

offline vveerrgg from life (Canada) on 2007-01-19 13:53 [#02034588]

i'd rather have that and hear shit on 99% of the recordings
I have for that 1% where it would sound PERFECT....

... and production wise I would aim for nothing less then
that 1% if I had a setup like that to work on.

i was just making a statement based on my observation. i'm
not saying i wouldn't mind having it myself. where and how
i'd ever come up with the money tho is highly unlikely. in
any event, were all gonna wake up dead one day so it's not
worth getting jealous over. he can't take it with him and
it wont matter at that point that he had it in the first
place. but that's not to say i wouldn't enjoy it while i'm
here!

Dave, there was some room built like a giant subwoofer. It
was like an octagonal (I think) pit, with the floor dropped
in the middle, making the outer floor a sort of bench.
Someone posted pics of it here 18 months or so back.

vlari: with you on the dalek speakers. That is exactly what
I thought.

EVOL: I agree that for my ears, I think something half the
price would sound the same. If I had the money though, I'd
build something like that in a flash. Of course, I'd have a
seperate room with a less amazing system for more casual
listening/having mates round, etc. too.
