a mac mini is an alternative to spending big bucks on a mac
pro or a macbook. they sell them now with intel core
processors which is good so you can run OSX and windows if
you want to do that sort of thing. The Mac OS is nice, and
extremely user friendly. I just bought a MBP over the
summer and the only thing thats a pain in the ass is if you
use VST's for anything. also i think the mini's don't have
a video graphics card so you'll probably want to beef up the
memory for it.

anyway, i'm totally happy with this thing, i'm sure you'll
get mac and pc fanboys debating what you should do. i say
go with it, if you don't like OSX you can always just run
windows on it instead. your choice.

I havent used one but I think it would be okay, I've been
using an iBook and its great for what I do. If you have lots
of VSTs or whatever that you want to move onto Mac you might
get pissed off but otherwise its fine, there are plenty of
plugins available for Macs. I am considering a Mac Mini as a
cheaper alternative to buying a new laptop since I already
have all the peripherals.

as long as you don't run too many impulse reverbs and moog
modulars vst/au and 40 channels of audio mac mini should
work just fine! 4 usb ports and 1 firewire port are always
great to have, too (midikeyboards and dongles eats
usb-ports!)

i have a mac. Macs are good. If you're getting a mac mini,
know that you can't really upgrade it ever, and make sure
you get plenty of RAM - if you have the option. Make sure
you have enough USB and firewire ports. Any hubs you get
externally will slow stuff down. Avoid bluetooth stuff too.

You should ask dog_belch. O, and don't forget to tell him
you like to buy a new iPod as well.

iLife, YEAH!

why is there a problem with vst's on the mac mini? The
availability of plugins in general compared to the pc or
because of imcompatibility with the intel core processor?
Then the mac book pro has the same problem, right?

i dont claim to understand but something about the vst
format is less stable on macs. often they are available as
'audio units' instead, which macs like. Also vsts from your
PC wont work on a mac, they have to be mac vsts. They are
generally less available because people dont always port
things for mac.
