The ipod mini was just one in a long chain of fuckups on Apple's part, which would make me extremely hesitant to buy any of their kit, unless it really was revolutionary/unique in some way. If something came along that was worth this risk, sure I'd take it, but I've yet to see what these supposed benefits are. Your list of a dozen practical features would be a start...
Here's a picture of me fixing my girlfriend's ipod mini (DIY replacing the battery with an aftermarket one- the only cost effective solution to a problem with an 18 month old mp3 player). The bigger ipods before that had well documented battery problems. What makes you think a phone (which will get even more use/recharging) will be any better?
