to some degree though a music industry helps artists live and make music and not have to give it up in order to work to survive. i think there's a certain balance to be struck.
it's interesing seeing how things have evolved over the past few years. i've found that the amount of vinyl that people are buying has dramatically dropped in the past year. i run a small distro, and it's almost at the point where it's not worth doing any more because i don't move enough volume. people don't buy many cds either though. i can see a near future where media really is irrelevant. i'm really against it as long as i can still get music and people who are doing great things can make some kind of a living from it.

I think there will always be something that is either vinyl or CD or something physical. There is something in the actual "ownership" of having it in your hand that owning music digitally doesn't cover.
and i have to say... as an artist... it's an exciting time in our music history... since there has been no other time when someone could make something they love and share it with a community of ppl. before that network was owned by the labels... but now.... labels are nothing more then glorified old world ways of getting artists on the cover of magazines.... which might sell more music... does not speak to the quality of the music or the soul of it.
Would I spend 20$ on a CD or Vinyl of an artist I really appreciate. DEFINITELY. would I spend $1 on a tune from iTunes... easily.... but neither of those purchases are casual purchases anymore. I don't even bother with torrents or soulseek... and i think that the majority of ppl who can afford $1 for an mp3 are in the same boat.

....that being said.. the minute i have enough $$$ to release a vinyl LP. you can bet I'm pressing one... if for no other reason then do do really cool cover art! and the chance to cut something that will sound better then any other format out there...
