Mackie have some mixers out under their budget brand Tapco.
Quality is meant to be good for the price. Could be just
what you need for your gear. Have a good xmas mate.

Isn't mackie already a budget brand? That would be a budget
budget mixer.

mackie definitely isn't a budget brand.
those tapco mixers are quite good actually I've heard.
I'm kinda nudging towards buying a blend 6 for live use.

Well, they aren't a budget brand when you compare them to
yamaha or behringer. They were one of the first budget mixer
companies though, if I am not mistaken.

Mackie isn't a budget brand. £1K for their middle of the
range monitors and £300 for a studio master volume knob =
far from cheap.

Hmmm. Things change. They were the first company to make
affordable mixers. Of course they have high end stuff, but
so does behringer, right?

And for that matter, so does yamaha.

I guess its really what you consider budget though. For a
mixer, I would say anything less than $800 is going to mean
compromising features or sound quality.

I'd say Makie isn't a budget brand. Even there cheaper stuff
is good quality. The Makie brand is strong IMO.

Hmmm. Maybe its more of a definition misunderstanding. When
I hear budget, I generally understand it as marketted
towards the hobbyist or prosumer market, but not necessarily
something that is cheap.

I dunno whether to get a Tapco or a Behringer Xenyx.

XENYX. Got one for Christmas. I had the previous UB2442 FX
version and XENYX is sooo much better. I am much more
impressed with the XENYX than I expected to be.

I got the XENYX2442 and best things are:
*EQ is so subtle compareed to UB2442 (which was alright
anyway)
*FX unit has much better fx really really useful and fun
*Value for money is just amazing.

I am so impressed with xenyx. I've not used and likely won't
use the low noise mic preamps, but the specs seem good. I
dunno what they sound like.

It also comes with a quite good USB audio interface too,
which was nice. Can't recommend it enough as a really good
budget mixer.

Nice one. I think I'll get the 1204FX, the 2442 would be
overkill for me I think.
