SValx is right. You get it (moreso on women, but also on men) when people were once overweight (and hence their skin stretched to contain it), but then lost the weight and the skin couldn't completely retighten. |

Ceri JC is wrong :D. It very often happens when people go through puberty or pregnancy and the body grows very quickly. That's why lots of women have them on their breasts, hips, ass and thighs, where the body changes the most in the growth spurt. It happens when the weight is put on, not when it is lost. Often when the weight is lost, the skin can shrink back, particularly if the person is young. If it doesn't then you get sagggggy skin as well as stretch marks. Delicious!! :D |

SValx and marlowe are both wrong. :P My post should have admittedly read "You also get it" which, I hope is obvious, as I also said in the same post that SValx's explanation was right. The rest of the post is correct though: Losing weight too quickly (particularly if you are really overweight and lose several stone in a short period of time) can cause stretch marks. Of course, this is rather counter-intuitive, given its name and a common misconception, so I completely understand people being unaware of it. "Causes of Stretch Marks: Weight loss or gain: Putting on a lot of weight over a short period of time can cause stretch marks to form. If you are constantly on and off diets, stretch marks can also form, as your weight goes up and down rapidly. If you are dieting, it is important to lose weight slowly so that strain isn't put on the skin. " . I was trying to make the point that it's not just putting on weight that causes it- losing too much of it too fast can too. Anyway, that's the excuse I'll be using to continue my xmas binge for a few more days a least. ;) |

I dunno, I'm no expert on the matter - I only knew about the weight loss thing because it happened to a friend when she lost a couple of stone (she got them after losing the weight in a few months- not when she put it on over 2 years). |
