I listened to the album all the way through finally and
it's absolutely amazing. The feeling I had when I finished
was it was the best album I've ever heard, (but I tend to
get that feeling whenever I listen to top notch stuff) I
kept avoiding it because the first song is BORING, and
repels you from the album, (plus it's in mono so it makes
the next song with heavy panning seem much quiter, kinda
lessens the impact it was supposed to have) but the rest is
superbo. This guy KNOWS what he's doing. It's very
autechreish...

I reccommmend "8000 bc" much more than escalo frio. Some
escalo frio tracks were'nt' really all hyper intricately
finished.

I agree it's emotionless, it's thinking music pretty much.
That's fine by me, because I'm stupid and it lelps me
thinkf.

i kept my distance for so long from lipswitch because of all
the people bashing it. finally, when i heard some good
things about aleamapper, i bought both records.

damn! i cant believe i didnt buy that record sooner!
lipswitch is really, REALLY good. youve got to listen at
least 10 times to that album before your brain can process
all the sounds in those tracks. but man, it'S really worth
it!

and surprisingly, aleamapper didn't do much for me at all...

Yeah! Same here (so far) aleamapper hasn't impressed me much
at all (another reason I avoided lipswitch)... I havn't even
heard the whole album (aleamapper) though... Lipswitch is
getting to the point where people with dinky freeware can no
longer do that stuff, you need advanced stuff to make stuff
that long and complex and evolving... maybe.

What about the first track on lipswitch, I thought it kinda
sucked, and I though aleamapper seemed kinda like a whole
bunch of these type of tracks... I need to listen and find
out. (but the rest of lipswitch kicks ass)

i kind of like the 1rst track on lipswitch. it's a lot

Lipswitch is da shit! - haven't heard Aleamapper.

There's some article on the nativeinstruments site .. where
he describes getting up to a 1000 sounds for one song .. he
also used 4 computers .. so yeah .. no simple stuff.!!!

I was trying to understand how this one song was chaotic and
organized at the same time, I think he'll have a unit that
repeats say, 1 time out of every 16 times:
X000000000000000(keep repeating)
like that, but every time this "x" strikes, it's a different
type of mutation of a certain quality of sound. LIke
different mutations might be:
1)X xx x
2)x
3)XYX

But there's a different sound that mutates on every single
one of those other 0's...
etc... but it KEEPS mutating, like software must've been
used, or code or something better than copy/cut/paste...

I've bought a lot on forced exposure, you can't buy this
rare stuff just anywhere (at least I can't find it hardly
anywhere but other people say they find otto von schirach
etc in their home music stores) Crunch kicks ass, it's so
minimal and complex at once. The sound TRULY evolves on this
album, it's so tricky... it's like extremely attention
grabbing, like, those weird gizmos you buy like lava lamps
or something but way better than that...

wMw..I am not surpriesed that you dug Lipswitch:) tremendous
album...
Aleamapper's vast huge..very complex and awe inspiring..a
slightly different buzz to Lipswitch's organized chaos..it's
a lot looser...

plague ep off schematic, not bad (the title track i think
was the standout - with the ricki martin sample worked in)
..

i did this really cool pattern thing in class yesterday ..

try this.

and make it into a cirle .. ie the first o joins the last O
.. i thought turned out quite cool anyway .. takes awhile to
figure out how big the circle should be tho

hey korben, that's cool, I know why it's interesting (but
havn't like drawn it on paper to see what it looks like)...
it tesselates like mc escher... the little o's go in this
order:
1,1,2,3,5,3,2
and the big ones go in the same order!
1,1,2,3,5,3,2 but the other direction! that's cool... See,
that's symmetry, symmetry is always interesting to me. It
confuses the brain or something.

Yeah, I thought aleamapper seemed more ambientish.

In one review of crunch it said "editors note: it is now
fairly well known that crunch is dave tipper and some other
guy" But they did send it to musik aus strom anonymously I
guess, with their words all glitched and stuff, and just an

That might be cool to translate into music data, like the
big o's become sound type 1 and small o's sound type two...
tesselating stuff is cool, it accounts for negative space...
negative space becomes positive space too...

Too bad it works out to be 34 total circles, if it was 32
it'd be easy to draw (just keep dividing a circle's total
circumference in half till you get 32 evenly distributed

yeah .. i haven't actually started "proper" to stuff around
with pattern and music .. but yeah .. I love MCE ..

i did do this interesting sounding thing generated from one
chord .. and then doing the fractal thing .. then
superimposing and halfing the time intervals and increasing
an octave each time ..

then had an lfo running across it and had a loud/quiet
pattern going through it as well.

interst sound.

i've been using the fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8,
13, 21, 34, etc., etc.) for stuff.

there's also some other thing that i forgot what it is. it's
2, 2 squared, (2 squared) + 2, ((2 squared) + 2) squared,
((2 squared) + 2) squared + 2.

yeah .. if it'd hand drawn its ok .. cause you can cheat a
little (as the circles aren't uniform in size) .. one of
these days i'll put it onto a graphix program.. that woudl

fibonacci ! that's what it was .. i was mumbling bernoulli
to myself, but i somehow knew that wasn't it.

the squared business sounds quite interesting.

apparently monet (or something? don't really know for sure)
used the fibornacci ratio (without him knowing) - in his use
of perspective?

like some road with trees spaced at "regular" intervals ..
when analysed showed up the 1,1,2,3 .. etc pattern .. which
as a result gave an accurate perception of depth/perspective

I bet taht would look cool if you spun it around... you'd
see 2 patterns at once... especially if they were all the
same size but instead different colors, it'd be easy for the
brain to distinguish them... I liked those asci (whatever)
art things you drew on that other thread, that some nerd
deleted heh heh. I've thought about using fibonacci, but
it'd probably just sound like randomly placed sound hits,
the brain probably can't really make the distinction... plus
as you get going, the numbers get farther and farther apart,
so eventually you have huge gaps of empty time or somthing.
I like moire patterns (hold 2 black combs together and
slowly move one while keeping the other still) that's an
interesting concept.

with fibonacci or the squared thing, i give each number a
value in accordance to the quantization.

other interesting thing with 1/1.5 ratios that the body
follows by. if the legs are given the value of 1.5, the
torso will equal 1. if the last bone on the finger is given
a value of 1, then the next joint (the middle one of your
three bones in a finger) will have a value of 1.5, if that
middle joint is given the value of 1, then the next joint (
the one that connects to the hand) will have a value of 1.5.
this 1/1.5 ratio is a standard for all humans.

interesting, why does a snail shell spiral... the geometry
of a creature that keeps getting bigger as it builds a
shell. That reminds me of this weird thing I wanted to do ,
like take a picture of a hand, but at the tip of each finger
blend the finger tip with a mini wrist and a new hand, then
repeat, even smaller hands on those smaller fingers... and
have them all in different positions and weird stuff, heh
heh.

i think fibonacci works in music if the time increments are
small enough .. but yeah .. if it is anywhere like 2seconds+
it would be too hard to detect.

the spinning thing would be cool. infact, that would be a
really cool gif for this mb! mmmhhh.. what do you use to

I use paint shop pro's thing "animation shop 2", it has a
"rotation effect" like the one shown <-- in my pic, but it
can't change speed, it's kinda a limited program from what
i've seen. I could probably make something like that.

thats a cool gif you got there yo self.

actually if one had that initial circle, then colour the o's
in roygbiv (or just decreasing/increasing wavelength) and do
the same (but opposite) for the O's .. then rotate the
colours (ie treating the o circle and the O circle as
seperate. .. and have the colours change the opposite way
???

that way the actual pattern remains static, but with the
colours is still highly dynamic?? mmmhhh.. or could do it
the other way .. keeping the colours fixed and rotating the
o's ..

mmmhhh.. mabye not tho.

(this is numbers corresponding to 1/16th quantization)

therefore with 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89..

we have 0/96, 0/96, 6/96, 12/96, 24/96, 42/96, 72/96, but
then we need a quantized value for the number 21. 21 will be
given the value of 16 + 5. this means we've made it through
one quantized step already, so we now have the first one,
which is

0/96, 0/96, 6/96, 12/96, 24/96, 42/96, 72/96

then the second one will start with fibonacci number 21, or
quantized step number five, equalling 24/96.

so that's
first step: 0/96, 0/96, 6/96, 12/96, 24/96, 42/96, 72/96
second step: 24/96

34 will equal 16 + 16 + 2 (technically this would be 24/96
on the second step)
55 will equal 16 + 16 + 16 + 7 (this would be 36/96 on the
third step)

so yes, there is the problem with lots of empty space

first step: 0/96, 0/96, 6/96, 12/96, 24/96, 42/96, 72/96
second step: 24/96
third step: 36/96

but to prevent so much empty space, you could move the 36/96
of the third step to the second step (because 36/96 does
come after 24/96 after all, so why move up a step when you
can move to the nearest quantized space), so you would then
have

first step: 0/96, 0/96, 6/96, 12/96, 24/96, 42/96, 72/96
second step: 24/96, 36/96, etc., etc, etc.
x step: etc., etc., etc., etc.,

so i may not be using fibonacci in the truest sense, i am
still using the numbers from it and moving them in their
order by a complete space (not quantizations) to not have
large gaps of empty space.

mmhh.. hevquiv .. yeah .. but once you start altering the
structure it starts to compromise the original effect??
altho don't know exactly what it sounds like ..

what one could do is have the proper (despite the large/ever
increasing time intervals) just start another fibonacci
sequence, say second line 0/96 or something.. and then do
THAT again, after a while (provided the susequent ..
sequences are started so that you get a lot of
superimposition after a while).

if you were to use different sound properties for these
could get quite interesting ..

or maybe one needs to add an element of symmetry - as in
like 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,13,8,5,3,2,1,1 ?? to tie it down
(ofcourse 21 doesn't have to be the turning point).

or you could have reverse fibonacci sequences starting from
the end of the song! ..

and/or superimpose it with fibonnacci x2 sequences .. ie,
2,2,6,10,16 ... and

actually superimposing it with multiplied sequences, but
having these match a fibonnacci pattern also,

so like:
1,1,2,3,5...
1,1,2,3,5...
2,2,4,6,10...
3,3,6,9,15...
5,5,10,15,25...

:)

yeah, i've got stuff written down on paper about fibonacci
sequencing and spacing. i just use it for timing and what

I just downloaded a Crunch track don't know how
representative of thier sound it is "am.I.ma"..hmm sounds
like standard IDM stuff to me..nice ambient pads..a
distorted hiphop rhythms..a few granulizing interludes..not

bad..but just not setting my world alight yet.. I am
downloading the whole album will let you know what I thunk
