oh fantastic.
yes i have.
i don't dislike most everyone who lives there.
what i dislike is its society, social values, how ultra capitalist it is, how this seems to destroy a lot of people's natural compassion,
how everyone seems to be on the litigation bandwagon, the enormous class divide, your current administration, the majority of previous administrations, general ignorance of a lot of americans towards the outside world, the ultra patriotism and nationalism that is so popular at the moment and quite frankly very dangerous,
things like banning giving money to vagrants, investigating "cures" for autism as if it were a disease, treating ADD and ADHD as diseases,
guns, cops with guns, talk shows like jerry springer and oprah, time is money,
i could go on and on but i doubt i'll be able to make you see it from my point of view: i haven't had very much success with trying to get Americans to see things from other people's perspectives.

i can understand some of your point of view, such as:
the current administration most previous administrations ultra patriotism is getting really boring and just sad talk shows
i think people consider autism, ADD and ADHD as disorders because they generally impede one's operation within society, and that probably applies for most other countries as well. i don't really know what you're on about with this, but that would be my general impression.
i know guns aren't that great of an idea, but i enjoy owning & responsibly using guns. i know that doesn't excuse the multitude problems that arise in a society where guns are available. personally, i could live without guns, but the NRA couldn't.
i guess the thing that most confuses me is your ambiguous "its society" in general. I guess i've never really been to another country that wasn't close to third-world, but what is so bad about it? i mean i know it's not perfect, but what are some specific things that annoy you about it? and social values? how can you generalize something like that for an entire country?

I agree with Luminous Aphids attack on Redrum...
People of Redrums character are all the same. They dont really know america, they know our Govt. & GI bullshit. They only promote the bad that we do. They dont know the american people & mainly talk out of their asses to make themselves feel better about not contributing to any relevant move in their opposition. Highly unedjucated remarks are said about the american people, perhaps misdirected, misinterpreted or whatever... Our Govt. is evil we all know that but that is not our people... Well not the majority for that matter....
I'll be back on later, gonna play some pool and get some food for now.

thanks for posting a calm reply, i really didn't expect that as a matter of fact.
to address your points -
yes the ones on the administrations were probably the ones you were expecting, and i stress that i do make a distinction between the administration and the populace (although when GWB is voted in a second time by half the electorate, it's starts becoming difficult.. especially since there's only been hushed whispers about his impeachment, whereas his predecessor was impeached for a personal scandal which didn't at all infringe on his ability to do his job)
guns are awful, and this is where it becomes difficult. banning guns outright would only make the situation worse. erm. i don't have a solution for it, basically all i was saying that america is fucked because of it, and i would dread living there as a result of their prevalence in society.
as for "its society" in general.. well, these are all the things that make the society the way it is, aren't they? they also shape people's opinions and their mindsets, most of which i don't like as a result..
is that satisfactory?

no, don't keep going, i can see that you have plenty of little reasons (albeit mostly very small and trivial ones) to hate america.
what i really want to know is, why does this hatred for the U.S. (at least seemingly) permeate your everyday thought process? What are the stakes that you have in whether the U.S. is good or bad? it just kind of annoys me that around half of your topics are about bad things that happen to go on in America, and I'm trying to understand why this is so important to you. And i'm not picking on you, i'm just curious why there is so much anti-American sentiment from a lot of the world (although I can completely understand in places like Iran).

plenty of little reasons? very small and trivial?
a few (very few) of them might seem trivial to me, but they're still annoyances. the vast bulk of them are awful, in my opinion, and the fact that you don't see them as such is another thing.. it's a culture clash of sorts, see? if you can explain why a few of those things aren't important, i'd enjoy reading it.
ps - i just realised i didn't repond to your ADD/ADHD comments - my own comments must've seemed a little weird - if you want i'll address them in my next post.
your second paragraph is quite pertinent and well put.
the fact is, i've been conditioned to it, but i've thought it through (and still am - that's another reason for its prevalence in my thoughts) and i "agree" with it.
what i was conditioned to was *certainly* not hate, however. it's just over here, you hear stories - the stuff that's always makes it to the news just because it's so bizarre and "could only happen in america" - and people would roll their eyes and mutter "bloody americans..." but think no more of it.
it effected me a lot more, mainly due to my parents' resent of American English, which they regard as an utter bastardization of English, and were always very vocal about. I was always very interested in language, so this had a great effect on me. I used to hold this opinion but quickly dropped it upon realising how totally stupid it is - it's as pathetic as racism really - however, i still cringe when i hear American English spoken or read it written.

the extreme lack of culture [when compared to other countries],
well redrum, to be fair, I think the united states has done pretty well culturally for it's 230 years. and then before that, the native americans that the mostly europeans killed off when they colonized here had quite fascinating cultures and the sparse few that survived it continue to. i understand that you were making a huge list of your grievances about our country and you couldn't really be detailed and i understand you probably meant the commercial culture that has thrived here over the past 100 years in particular. but i bet if you gave it some consideration you'd have a hard time justifying the inflammatory thing you just said.

the autism thing - as far as i'm concerned, a "cure" is being investigated for the sake of the adults (who've probably been eating the wrong foods, which has led to the birth of a severely autistic child), and not for the sake of the child.
i don't AT ALL contest the fact that raising an autistic child must be very difficult.
but autism isn't a disease, and shouldn't be treated like one. it's a range on the spectrum of personality and behaviour.
that wasn't at all well structured, forgive me, it's 5:05am, i'm shivering with the cold, can't sleep, if you want me to write more about the autism thing then say the word and i'll give it a bit more thought

i agree with almost everything you've said there, and come to think of it, you're probably right about america having doing pretty well - it's probably the fact that she was born at the wrong time that caused the pinnacle of american culture to be a.. kinda.. ugly one..
one of the things i'm most pissed off about is that there aren't Native Americans, Incas and Aztecs living there in the majority, and I have nobody and nothing to blame but religion, greed and the fucking dispicable, overzealous Europeans of the 15th and 16th Centuries

hahaha, we do a number on the mother language, don't we? ;)
well, I guess the reason I don't see a lot of your points as important as i'm trying to see them from your point of view... for example, stupid parents feeding their children too much in the U.S. I know i care a lot about this as these are the people that i'm going to be operating in society with, but i guess i don't see the pertinence for someone halfway across the globe. the ones i really thought small were fat people, religion, talk shows, shopping channels, mostly all the stuff that doesn't matter on a world scale. looking back a lot of them are small but are pretty important when you add them up (especially the good ole' govt). also culture, i guess i don't get how there can be a measured "lack" of culture.
being conditioned to dislike (better word?) the U.S. is pretty interesting to me. i always wondered how much of that carried over between generations, and it seems like in your case it was a lot. I'm surprised that there isn't more conditioning in America toward other countries or anything like that (i guess we had/are having our bout with the whole racism thing, though), but i guess that's probably because most people here don't care what anyone else thinks or says or is doing or has done or will be doing.
i guess in a way it's good that other countries have us in the spotlight so that they don't massively fuck up like we as a national entity do on a fairly regular basis.
