why do you celebrate christmas? (assuming you do)

does anyone still do it for the old jesus stuff? apparently
some guy from the clouds was born who ended up teaching some
guys some stuff and then got nailed to some wood on a hill.

or is it just for the whole being nice to people you know
and buying them presents to show you care about them?

or just an excuse to get pissed?

All that Jesus shit has nothin' to do with Christmas.
Christmas was adopted with that Romanised policy of
integrating pagan traditions and customs to make their
dominance easier to be thrust upon their conquered. For
example, Christian Christmas: Celebrating the birth of Jesus
Christ; Pagan Christmas: Celebrating the birth of Mithras.

Christmas trees themselves are adopted from an old pagan
German tradition.

...Anyway, to answer your question. Christmas to me is the
sweet smell of a REAL Christmas tree, the tinsel and the
fairy lights, the wrapped gifts under the tree, children
opening presents, old-fashioned festive songs and the
atmosphere and images which they conjure - simplicity and
innocence.

none of that religious stuff for me.
i want to spend time with friends and family, buy presents
for people i know and love, enjoy the whole christmas
atmosphere of lights and trees and candles and mulled wine
and cheesy 70s and 80s christmas music.

and get pissed.

a lot of people say you grow out of christmas when you grow
up, but that hasnt happened to me. i still enjoy it.

So what about other people? He asked what it meant for you.
If that's what Christmas means to you, then you really
are In The Bleak Midwinter.

A time for giving, a time for getting,
A time for forgiving and for forgetting.
Christmas is love, christmas is peace,
A time for hating and fighting to cease.

Christmas time, mistletoe and wine
Children singing christian rhyme
With logs on the fire and gifts on the tree
A time for rejoicing in all that we see
