yea so, i've used VST pluggins on my windows machine now
with hardly any problems, but i'm having trouble using them
on my mac. i have absynth 3 installed right at the moment
but can't seem to get it running via ableton live. what do
i need to do, or what am i overlooking? thanks for any help
or direction

Are you using an older mac or one of the new intel ones. If
its an intel one does the version of absynth you are using
have universal binary support? And if so, is ableton proven
to be reliable with that version of absynth? Also, if its a
cracked version of the plugin, it probly won't run on the
mac. Finally, make sure you are using a mac version of the
plugin.

There are plenty of things that could be going wrong. Mind
you, I don't have a mac, so I don't know what the problems
could be. I have heard from most mac owners I know that
running vst plugins is a hassle.

I'm actually using a macbook pro. I'm running OSX only. So
the versions of the program i have are for Mac, i have
Ableton live 5.2 with updated intel support and it works
great. I'm thinking about upgrading to 6 but i've heard the
new multisampler thing takes awhile to load up and takes up
more space. i just printed out the ableton manual b/c
someone said it sort of explains how to set them up on a
mac.

its probably better that i'm not using VSTs as much but
there are certain ones that i can't live without (virtual
synths mostly not effects). i thought that it wouldn't
matter which OS you use to run a VST. i thought they'd work
through the software reguardless...shame on me

you cant just use your old windows vsts with osx, they need
to be written for osx especially, and most of the times they
make them into audio units which is more efficiently handled
by the system. as for your problem with absynth, look for
the audio unit (au) it should be readily available seeing as
it installs itself in the library/audio/plug-ins folder
