(look, a half-decent thread!)_

i am finally beginning to appreciate radiohead. thanks to
the guy down the corridor.
got kid A, amnesiac, hail to the thief and eraser (thom
yorke on his own). will try and get hold of ok computer
which is apparently amazing.

Like Spinning Plates on amnesiac is amazing. now i
understand why everyone calles them experimental.

There's a radiohead live album with an better version of
like spinning plates. Just Tom and a piano having a blast.
Be sure to check that...

Idioteque on the same album (I suppose you mean "I might be
wrong") is really good too.

It's my favourite track as well, but the sample that makes
the track so good is stolen from some old electronic music
album, and it's not credited :(

um, but really.. it is.

as for radiohead. they have stupid fans and hail to the
thief was a bit of a crap album, havent listened to them in
ages but i still stick by them.

the eraser isn't a radiohead album, FAG!

anyway, you need to get their b-sides.

all their albums have great moments

Ezk, try "Radiodread" album with dub versions of OK
Computer, if you haven't. Great fun to listen. And a very
good version of "airbag" by Horace Andy.

"Mild und Leise" by Paul Lansky. Hmm i just didnt think it
was credited for some reason, at least not on the album.

Check it out

In the bottom of the page.

Hail to the thief is a great album. It totally restored my
faith in rock-music and music making bands in general (or
whatever you want to call it). There's actually some
experimentation/development in a meaningful way.

all they do is try copying artists they found interesting
(at least they have good taste in those) and it just turns
out silly because they probably don't know what to do with
those sounds..i'll never get over it. most pretentious band
in the history of music.

Exactly. And Radiohead do a phenomenal job of integrating
all kinds of sounds into their music. There's no outright
''copying'' to speak of.

Although they have a few stylistic misses. Some of their
electronic stuff rubs me the wrong way sometimes and I
generally hate Thom's voice. But something like Pyramid Song
is a great musical hybrid and very distinctive.

my favourite tracks by radiohead are the b-sides from
amnesiac. They're wicked and they formed the majority of the
soundtrack to a scanner darkly.

Plus about 10 tracks between amnesiac and kid a.

Most of the last album was disappointing.

offline pigster from melbs on 2006-12-05 19:02 [#02013372]

hail to the thief had some awesome songs. except, for me,
its heaps different from their previous stuff and doesnt do
it for me.
also, the tracklisting, and production? just seems a bit
flawed. i dunno, could of been better. but instead, it just
seems like a random collection of too many songs with only a
few enjoyable moments (imo, anyway).

um, if i didnt get into radiohead, i doubt id be listening
to what i listen to today.

hail to the thief is very different to the other albums. i
feel thwe songs are written from a different angle, they are
very... theatrical. wich is interesting but it makes it
harder to 'connect' with them.

yes pyramid song! had an awesome video as well. one of the
b-sides to that (think its called 'trans-atlantic drawl') is
superb. I Might Be Wrong is the best release theyve put out.
makes them sound like an amazing live band and i can see why
their tickets get snapped up within hours. shame about thom
yorkes face though.

Not really! I don't feel that I'm missing out, plus I don't
believe they contribute anything so original and
spellbinding that I simply cannot survive or live an
enjoyable and fulfilling musical existence without them!

God, it's like looking up to the head prefect in an
upper-middle-class boarding school - he comes across so vain
and self-important and arrogant and lots of other negative
traits. Yuck!

if theres one music making person or group I have faith
enough to want everything they produce, its radiohead. I
have come to really love hail to the thief, even though the
title is a bit shit, but I Will and Where I End And You
Begin are up there with their best songs, and the rest are
great as well , and the Eraser is the best album I' bought
in 2006 and probably a long while before... yeah I like
radiohead a lot. and I have serious doubts about people who
have otherwise good taste in music but really hate radiohead

here's my prediction. in two years they will release a
slightly different version of the new team doyobi album with
york vocals over it. and rgey will once again be hyped as
the most experimental band in the universe.

Yeah they're like the Bill Gates of Pret Rock -- other
people do all the hard graft and original work, then the
Swanky Wankers come along and nick it all, repackage it and
hail themselves as The Most Intellectually Important Musical
Outfit Ever To Have Humbled God With Their Immense
Awesomenity.

When, in fact, they're a browny-green slime dwelling within
the armpit of a cesspool tree.

Etc.

well i cant envisage winning this argument but when people
describe musicians they dont like as 'self-important' or
'pretentious' it tends to be an interpretation of how they
are presented in the media rather than anything you can
directly link to the musician, and i think most musicians
could probably be portrayed as pretentious if you wanted
them to be

I don't follow their media-coverage, I'm basing it mainly on
what has come out Thom Yorke's mouth or things he has
written, etc. And I base my dislike of their music on...
wait for it... listening to their music.

wait. this is not about autechre being pretentious, is it?

/sarcasm

point being:
whether radiohead is pretentious or not, is about as
important as whether autechre is pretentious or not. in
other words: it's a load of gobshite. it just doesn't
fucking matter. you like their music or you don't.
apparently you don't. but arguments as "i don't like them
because their pretentious" = load of gobshite. sometimes all
the hype seems to occur only in peoples heads themselves. no
wait, make that most of the time.

not liking them is one thing.
not liking them because of thom yorkes personality/whatever
is silly.

just, dont give a damn, about any of it.. cos if you did the
same for every artist/band, you wouldnt be listening to
anything.

see an interview sometime and talk then. you will be

gives a few winks just so we know how brilliant he really
