wiki

At a ShoWest convention in 2005, George Lucas demonstrated
new technology and stated that he planned to release all six
films in a new 3-D film format, beginning with A New Hope in
2007.[10]

Additionally, Lucas has hinted in the past that he will
release his definitive (often called "archival") editions of
all six of his Star Wars films on a next-generation
home-video format in 2007. This release would coincide with
the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars saga. It has been
speculated that he will take this opportunity to make any
final adjustments, changes, additions, and/or subtractions
to his films for this final release. An altered clip from
The Phantom Menace included in a featurette on the DVD
release of Revenge of the Sith (in which a computer
generated Yoda replaces the original puppet) appears to be a
sign that the "archival" editions are indeed in the works.

It is said that this edition will be released in a "Grand
Saga" box set. Lucasfilm Vice President of Marketing Jim
Ward confirmed that in this final release, Lucasfilm is
likely to return to John Lowry to do even more work on the
films (possibly digital contemporization of the original
trilogy). He says, "As the technology evolves and we get
into a high-definition platform that is easily consumable by
our customers, the situation is much better, but there will
always be work to be done."[11]

Producer Rick McCallum has also explained that Lucasfilm has
been holding back a large amount of bonus material for this
release, including deleted scenes, as well as numerous
previous Star Wars "making-ofs," spin-offs, television
specials, documentaries, and other special material.

...
WHEN WILL IT END!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing the films in high definition, but the
rest is just ridiculous. Hopefully they will release a
straight trilogy in HD like they finally have with normal
DVD.

i havent got the original dvds yet, tho i really plan to.
and i havent got episodes 1-3 in any format, so itd be good
to just have the single dvds and be happy. but this ULTIMATE
BOX. with its deleted scenes and such, plus right amount of
timing, will probaly result in me spending more money yet
again... urhghghghhhh

I think itd be badass if in Return of the Jedi he added a
small clip where Dengar pulls Boba fett out of the pit of
sarlac.

Instead of making it look like he went out like a bitch

This is like, what - the fourth, or fifth? - generation of
Star Wars compilation releases. I lost count somewhere on
the way. I don't blame him for trying to sell, but I do
blame people for buying this shit.

South Park ripped the piss out of this some time back.
What's the big deal? If you don't like the new versions,
don't buy them. Episodes 1-3 were fucking awful but I think
it's only misty eyed nostalgia that makes me think episodes
4-6 were any good in the first place.

George Lucas was a good egg until I discovered Star Wars is
actually fiction! Pulled the wool right over my eyes, the
bastard!

I'm excited by the prospect of deleted scenes, more
documentaries etc... When I buy DVDs I never watch the main
feature, just the documentaries. Well, I bought BMX Bandits
yesterday and watched the main feature. What A Film. I hear
the director is retouching it, making the BMXs
computer-generated, which will be nice.

The first 3 films in the 80's were wickedly creative and
perfect. Everything else has sucked so bad that he has
almost ruined the originals.

one thing that really fucked me off, was in the originals
when they got remastered with the new footage, the cunt put
Hayden Christensen in at the end of return of the jedi. WTF?
I think he's taken him back out now or was that in another
version? Fuck knows.

I'm waiting for the versions with a laughter track added,
seeing as they're apparently mean to be Space Comedies,
roger roger uh-oh.

I might do that myself and become an Internet legend for the
2 seconds it takes Genial George to get a whiff and send his
lawyers to dispatch me to the spice mines of kestral lager.
