most of you probably use a PC... but apples are supposed to be really good for music (and other multimedia shit like graphics and video editing)... and i noticed a few of u use them
..so what do u think of this: http://www.apple.com/hotnews/articles/2002/03/grammyaward/
(btw: check out Moby's comments about apple... he sounds like a fucking commercial! "I’ll be in my studio working with my G3 and G4 producing music, and then to take a break I’ll go and check my email or check my web site on my iBook.
...there’s probably not an hour or two in my waking life that I’m not involved with some kind of Macintosh product"
ahah.. what a sellout not that he was good in the first place

oh ya: so what i was going to ask was this: do u think using some big fancy apple G4 would really make a noticable differance in the performance of programs like Reason/Cubase, etc?
would using a PC actually LIMIT u in some way?
i mean, comparing a high-end PC with a high-end apple (g4)

PCs are more powerful and you will be able ot run more vst effects and soft synths on a killer PC. Macs on the other hand are very easy to trouble shoot and are very reliable (so are PCs if you set them up right). Its basically personal preference. IF you know how to use a PC better than a Mac stick to PCs.

I think it's a matter of programs available on MAC's compared to PC's...
I like Moby's music.

Find software you like and then buy the hardware that runs it. I remember a discussion comparing music creation on MacOSX and WinXP. MacOSX had lower latency in some area which made it better for serious musicians. I don't have a link to the article though.

Downloaded the full version off morpheus, plus the demo used to have did the same thing. I would hope a 700mhz processor and 256mgs of RAM would be enough...

If your going to be using a killer Macintosh or PC? Man look at the charts...... the newest G4 Tower thats out is about 78% faster than the newer p4s out there today for PCs....
As well, Macs are pretty much made for multimedia purposes, ive always used both in my life, Macs and Pentiums and Ive always had a large disliking for PCs...... stuck to Macs.

I use a mac.
But in all honesty, especially for a starting musician [where money does a lot of talking] - i don't think that it really matters.
personally i love my G4, bouncing audio, vst effex etc. etc. is significantly faster than AMD's/Pentiums of over twice the megahertz rating! .. but then .. if one were to get a pc for the same price, it'd probably be similar speed.
Mac is possibly more stable, my flat mate got an AMD athlon, built it himself, but had 1 year of troubles/crashes etc.. till he eventually replaced the mother board, which in the end cost him a lot of money. However, with his new motherboard things run very smoothly (he is also a part time musician).
Software wise its about the same for audio/music stuff (with the painful omissions of the likes of FruityLoops, SoundForge ...) ..
And at the end of the day .. which is what really matters .. using a PC or Mac (with adequate specs) won't hinder you to make good music. It is up to the artist and his/her creative juices and conceptualisations. I think it would be naive to think that merely by getting a mac the music is going to sound better, because it is supposedly a better audio platform.
phf.e.e
ps: note, people that recommend macs (in general), are well established artists, that have a lot of money, and so the fact that macs are more expensive wont bother them so much .. blah blah blha ..
