Talking Heads appreciation thread

This is the thread for appreciating Talking Heads.

It's been my favourite artist for over a year now. I just
love the nervous and alienated feel, the slightly deranged
musical arrangements, David Byrne's unique vocal style and
the absurd lyrics.

Their two first albums - 'Talking Heads '77' and 'More Songs
About Buildings and Food' - are mostly punk / post punk. The
third - 'Fear of Music' - sounds like a transition between
the two predecessors and the following albums. The fourth
and the fifth album - 'Remain in Light' and 'Speaking in
Tongues' sounds more rhythmic, electronic and futuristic.
The sixth - 'Little Creatures' - has some good tracks, but
this and the following albums sound a bit too bland in my
opinion.

Top list:
1. Speaking in Tongues (1983)
2. Fear of Music (1979)
3. Remain in Light (1980)
4. More Songs About Buildings and Food (1978)
5. Talking Heads '77 (1977)

Although the first five albums are almost equally good.

The concert film "Stop Making Sense" is also brilliant.

Let the appreciating commence

I like Talking heads but have to admit that I haven't really
paid much attention to their first albums, except on the
excellent live album "Stop making sense". Speaking in
tounges is also my favourite pick

Supposed to be: "except the TRACKS on the live album"

THEY ARE IMMENSE!!!! But Speaking In Tongues DEFINITELY IS
NOT their best album at all. More like this:
1. Remain In Light
2. Fear Of Music
3. More Songs About Buildings & Food
4. '77
5. Speaking In Tongues

The Name Of This Band is a great live album, and a good
introduction to the Heads if you can find it cheap.

The delay pedal solo that comes in at about 2:45 is awesome.

hardly anything comes close to their first three albums. my
fave has to be "more songs..."

They are great. I recently discovered how much I enjoy early
REM too. When they were on the irs label.
