What would you do if you lost all your beautiful non-backed up music?
Has anyone got any tales of such an event?
How paranoid are you? I now have 3 copies of all my music.

I think music is so easy to obtain nowadays, its really even worth the harddrive space to back it up.

funny, my ipod has corrupted again today. second time its happened now. not healthy.hopefully it'll be simple to restore like the first time (albeit a very slow process) whilst it was all stuff i have on cd anyway, i wouldnt be bothered really if i had/have lost all my music, music is meant for the moment..

I made an insane purchase on an INTernal 300 gb Seagate HD for my cpu as opposed to an EXTernal which would of been more sensable. But I figured I'll get an external HD down the road and use it for my "backup/live HD" and keep my interal HD as my production storage. But as of right now if my cpu crashes or I get an insane virus that eats away my files, then yea Im fucked and roughly 5 yrs of work would be lost.

If my computer music. probably not too much. If all my CD's and records. YES. Backed up or not (most of them are) on the computer side.

If you have it external it'll probably end up sitting there. I certainly wouldn't subject my 'backup' hard drive to movements... I don't see the point really. If I had a tower (I have a notebook though) I would just get an internal as backup. If you're going to get an 'external' one all you do is buy an internal one and a case. That's all they are.

I've got some of my music backed up on my mp3 player. I lost half of my mp3s thru my mp3 harddrive failing. That was bloody annoying.

all bought mp3s are backed up on an external hd, and the rest is stored in my cd collection.
thinking about it, it would be a god thing if i lost all my mp3s. it's a good way to get rid of all the junk i never play anyway.

I normally rip a new cd I've bought for the sake of the ipod, and i always loose cds. even if you've got the music on your pc, it's still very saddening to loose the original cd, because it has pretty artwork and it's like, a solid, sexy, physical product.

i've already thought about it... there's not much i could do if that happened. it would be terrible. : (
it would cost lots of money and take lots of time to buy all my cds again, and there are quite a few i simply couldn't buy again since they're out of print.

If i lost my mp3 collection it wouldnt be that bad really. Youre talking about your own music tho right? That would be bad, I might back it up right now since youve made me worry

just store all of your music in a place/folder you don't visit often and try to forget about it then...

I dunno. It would suck, but they're just mass produced pieces of plastic, many of which I don't listen to anymore and many more I eventually won't want to listen to. I'd be really bitter about having spent so much money on them though.

very nearly did. used my mp3 player to store all my music - my CDs are back home - and was the only place i had the stuff i have written stored aside from a few CDRs left at my girlfriends.
i decided to put the whole lot on my laptop a few weeks ago. the next day my mp3 player started playing up. it doesnt switch on anymore. lucky!

I've lost the bulk of my mp3s twice over the years.
It's no big deal, most stuff I really like I own legit (vinyl/cd) copies of anyway. The few things I play regularly that I don't own (rareties, live sets, unreleased tracks, etc.) I have usually backed up to cd.
