hello you!
i'm bending some toy synthezisers and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about implementing cv/gate control functions or MIDI. if you have any good links or advice please share! :)

I suggest you check out what chip does the sound generation, then you google it and find out what input it takes for the notes and gating. Then you find a way to translate midi or cv/g into the signal it wants :)

You can get a PIC to do simple midi to CV/gate stuff. There are probably examples on the net. If you know a small bit of electronics or computers (like programming not powerpoint!) then get into PICs, they are simple to use and really useful. They are like tiny tiny computers on a chip, ideal for a bit of midi decoding.

make a lovely power point presentation with exciting wizzy effects and transitions, use a fantastic template to add a touch of class and use clip art to illustrate & improve your short paragraphs on each slide.....

Stay away from the processor chip... thats all I know.
Well, I guess you need to use the processor chip in order to create a midi interface. I know a few of the people here build synthesizers, and circuit bending is a regular hobby for them too.

Yeah, stay away from BIG chips with lots of small pins, these are usually RAM or ROM chips. Kill those and you'll never be able to use the product normally again.

Yeah. You don't want to use it normally, thats understood. The fact that you are risking never using it at all unless its a paperweight, I think thats what the 'Oh dear...' meant.
