Sharia Law

I heard a bit about it today on the radio and was curious
if anyone here has had any experience with it, seeing that
this is an international messageboard. What I heard, which I
vaguely remember, was about a predominantly Muslim
neighborhood in France declaring that they are a sovereign
Muslim nation or something. They wouldn't allow a French
official enter if I remember right (I can't find the artical
on Google).

I also hear that this type of religious law is spreading in
Canada and Britian. Or at least the attempt to
validate/legalize it through which ever country's government
this happens to be in.

What's the deal?

Hasn't there been some hubbub about in England?

I haven't hearrd anything about it, but frrom what I've just
quicky rread in the last 3 seconds, it doesn't give me
anything to worrrry about.

It would be inconceivable to allow to flourish in this
country a law under which women can be stoned to death for
adultery and petty thieves can have both arms amputated; or
a series of laws that places women in a permanent state of
inferiority and supplication while giving men overwhelming
power, including the right to perform acts of violence on
their wives

Maybe cerrtain considerrations of specific ethic values
might be taken into account in the UK, and labeled 'Sharia',
orr whateverr, but like I just said, doesn't seem to be
anything to worrrry about. Not herre atleast.

I was reading about it being adopted in the UK a couple of
months back. It's only about 20% of muslims in the UK who
think it has any relevence in the UK (that's "any relevance
at all" not "it should be adopted").

Personally, I think the idea is ludicrous; I wouldn't go to
another country, commit a crime under their law and expect
to be tried under my own law. Similarly, I don't want to (in
my country) get lost in an unfamiliar town/city and
accidentally wander into an area of Sharia law and be tried
under a barbarous, uncivilised law.

Still, this should illustrate to the lefties who've had a
hard-on for Islam since 9/11, that "my enemy's enemy is not
my friend".

Disclaimer: I am not anti-islamic. I have several friends
who are Muslims. They are all integrated, civilised people
who are not very different from me.

Is it anything like Sara's Law? If it is then I'm all for
it. Cut their balls off!

fuck that. i hate it when ethnic/religious minorities try to
impose their own laws on the majority. when in rome, do as
the romans do. i adhere to that.

that's it, make it all black OR white, left OR right,
because that's how life works, obviously.

i know! i may sound like a nazi, but people should at least
partially integrate with the existing society instead of
bringing their own and closing themselves off. if i moved to
saudi arabia i would dress like a local, smoke sheesha with
the guys at work, etc. i would not shut myself away or
expect everyone to be tolerant of the lifestyle i am used to
at home and choose to bring with me.

but you don't...

you don't agree with all laws passed where you live. you
don't even agree with laws passed in america where you don't
live and you'd probably feel disgusted or outraged if you
saw someone, law in hand, light their wife on fire (you
can't do that, but it's an extreme example).

and if you think about it, you'll probably come to the
conclusion that you shouldn't agree with the law in
effect where you happen to be at that given time because the
majority supports it.

Its rubbish, most muslims in the UK dont want it, and
muslims themselves are wanting to reform sharia law ...

Okay, back on topic:

The ins and outs of Sharia law and the barabarism of it is
irrelevant. Even if it were a moderate, reasonable legal
system, with no "cruel or unusual" punishments, it ought not
to be implemented, unless the majority of the populace
believe it to be superior (and by that, I mean "more just")
than the existing law. In that case, it ought to be
implememented across the country as a whole, completely
replacing the existing legal system.

A division of the law and how it is applied in various
districts is a backwards step and the opposite of what most
counties are currently doing with regard to standardisation
of bye-law enforcement. Implementation of any other legal
system in a region-specific manner can only serve to further
ghettoise those who choose to live within it and segregate
them further from society. Furthermore, it will drive out
indiginous people who currently live within Muslim
communities, furthering the rift. In short, it will block
integration, not aid it.

Incidentally, "Sharia" rhymes nicely with "Maria" and is
crying out for a satirical cover version of Blondie's hit of
the same name...
eg
"...go insane and cut off your ha-aands."

I thought this was going to be about the porn star Sharia
Law.

I have no idea if there actually is a porn star
called Sharia Law, but if there isn't there damn well should
be.

Just found some interesting articles while between classes:

Maybe this is how they get a "foot in the door"

It's not a majority, but 4 out of 10 is still alot.

And maybe this how it ends?

I wouldn't want to live somewhere dictated by the laws of
any religion. Roman Catholic primary school was
enough for me.

If a Muslim-British citizen is dealt with this way--being
hung at the age of 16--will the police be prepared to handle
having to go into a predominantly radical Islamic
neighborhood to inact justice? What happens if there are
riots?

I hope you guys are taking precautions...

Ceri, we seem to be having a discussion about the ins and
outs of something that has not happened and will never
happen - sharia law will never be implemented in any part of
the UK, muslims countries dont even implement it , so this
discussion is largely pointless

But imagine raping a girl, saying she led you on, then you
get to watch her be hanged by a JCB. Come on, it's not all
no booze and having to have a beard.
