it's no wonder that Devine has worked with everyone from BT and Trent Reznor to Apple and Audi—using a wealth of M-Audio gear including the Oxygen 8 v2 keyboard controller, Octane preamp, Solaris microphone and more.

"The detail that you can capture is unreal. There are so many positive things I could say about M-Audio hardware and software that I could be here for days talking about this."
“I have used M-Audio products on every single project that I have worked on, whether it was sound design for other audio companies, TV commercials, video games or sound tracks,” Devine concludes. “It's been the workhorse gear that keeps on going and going.”

richard devine much be the most fake ass wanker in idm world
he is really copying other artist and make it worse i once tried to listen to it but it is all pretentious tweaking of lame sounds and he is trying to be as interesting as autechre or something he s really trying too hard
but as all americans are fake they probably prefer richard devine over british artist thats why he did became what you can call famous or something. He's is really typical american who wants to do it bigger than autechre

Why so done on Devine?...His faster intricate is far more musical than much of Ae (who seem to consider process more interesting than output far too often...)..
And who can blame RD for product endorsments...everyone has to pay the rent after all and anything that let's a musician continue to make interesting, forward thinking music in today marketplace is good by me...
Vive le Devine!!...

Much of Richard Devines stuff just flat out bores me. There are a couple of tracks that I like (including the come to daddy remix) but they are interesting rather than grabbing. Obviously that is just my opinion, something cygnus seems to think I shouldn't be entitled to.
I don't dislike him, I just prefer the ae take on the ae sound.

Wow, lots of Richard Devine haters here. I really like his approach to sound design and think he creates wicked atmosphere. I don't know how anyone can be into the production side of things and not appreciate what this guy does. Also I haven't heard anyone that sounds like him. Please make me aware of who these artists are that he supposedly imitates. i'd probably really enjoy their music.
Closest thing resembling a criticism I have for RD would be that a lot of his stuff sounds pretty similar.

fuck this guy. Ive had enough of his sponsorship bullshit and his flaunting his ferrari synths at everyone. Im all for discussing hardware, but he just seems like he's really exclusive about it. Like he's personal friends with Delia Derbyshire and she came back from the dead to build a special tape loop machine just for him. Thats how tight he is with the elite synth crowd. Fuck off you dick head.

That deep baseline that comes in halfway to "Dansk Rap" is awsome. The first half is pretty boring though.
I like Devine. Latley I've really been enjoying his remix of Otto Von Schiarch's Laptop's and Martinis (for the Armpit Buffet album).
My problem is that sometimes within the course of a track he will hit on something REALLY sweet, like a certian deep growl sound that he will only use once, for example. And I just wish he would have taken that sound and run with it for a little bit, rather then immediatly moving on. I mean his music is looped enough, he could easily run with some of his better sounds a little longer.
That's the fundatmental difference between Autechre and Devine for me... when ae hits on a new interesting sound/idea within a track they ALWAYS explore it for a period of time. That's why ae keeps me coming back for more and Devine's albums are mostly forgettable.

I can see the skill and immense detail involved in his productions; it's just that I find the sounds and the way that they develop throughout a track really dull. I have all three of his albums, and there are some great tracks, but that typical stutery, mechanical, screechy glitch sound gets a bit much after a while. I find that other, better bands or artists in the same genre tend to inject more variety into their sound design and in the way their tracks evolve.

I saw Richard Devine play outdoors in a forest last december. And he went off! It was great! Hands down the most intense, mind-blowing and all round best live electronic act I've ever seen (No-one tours australia but I've seen: aphex, prefuse, vibert, phonecia, monolake) Most of the people there were into psy trance, so it absolutely gutted them- they hated it. But seriously, it was great

I still have to familiarize myself with who's sarcastic all the time and who's sincere, being the xltronic newb that I am. It can be hard to tell because I've heard a lot of people on messageboards say a lot of ridiculous things that have been said in all seriousness.
I'll definitely have to see his live set sometime if he's ever in my area. I imagine the sound at a RD show would be quite exceptional. It's good to hear he's got the performance side of things down as well as the technical side.
