What are you using on the mac then, software wise?

I bought a mac last week and I'm still trying to figure out
what software I wanna use. I'm a little annoyed I can't run
cubase on it (not until version 4). And also that crappy
little freeware VSTs wont work either.

I'm trying to reintroduce myself to Ableton, but I hate
having to use the built-in instruments and effects. What do
you use?

i use ...

Digital Performer (MOTU) which is excellent
Reaktor 5
Battery 3
Reason 3
Recycle
with a Firewire 410 M-Audio soundcard
and a PowerMac :D

I used to use ableton, but i stopped.

DP 5 will take you about 2 months to get you up to speed [as
a switch from cubase] and you'll probably hate it all for
about 1 month [like any switches in software] but then
you'll love it to pieces. I used to use cubase when i had a
PC.

I haven't even seen Digital Performer about, I'll check it
out.

VST wise though, I thought that they couldn't be used as
hardly any of them are Universal Binary (apart from the big
commercial ones). Its a shame as there are a handful of
really lo-fi and CPU efficient VSTs I've been using for
years, and love.

I am going to try and get cubase up and running on Boot
Camp, see how it fares on that (hate switching between two
OSs though, its frustrating)

How's battery 3 by the way, I need a decent drum sampler.

battery 3 is worth every penny.

reason isnt.

i havent used any vsts on my new intel mac. So you are
probably right. The changeover is going to be a little
labourious i imagine. I still have to wait until mid october
for universal patches for reaktor 5
