Big fan of the UK comic 2000AD as a kid. I reckon the best
period was issues 600-800 from about 88-92, really dark,
satirical and well illustrated. Went shit after the Judge
Dredd movie though. Some good stuff before '88 of course,
but it was still a little bit too "Boys super action
adventure stories!" for my taste.

Look at every cover from every issue ever here.

I remember back in the old days, my brother bought some of
those when he was very young, and i was even younger, and
we burned them in the fireplace because we thought they
where to scary. Like, it would be normal to pass them on, or
throw them out, but we had to burn them because it felt like
they where pure evil. Then some years later, he started
buying them again, and we loved them. I still get nostalgic
of looking at that great cover art

Yeah, they used to freak me out as a kid. There was one ABC
Warriors story where this girl turned into a demon, so these
religious people crushed her under a huge pile of rocks, it
gave me proper nightmares when I was about nine. The artwork
was really atmospheric and you could tell they'd put the
time in. Every now and again I'll have a look at a recent
issue in WHSmith, but it doesn't seem as good as the old
days, stories are too generic and a lot of the artwork seems
like it's been done on computers.

Totally agree. I remember i was completely fascinated by the
artwork as well. So much detail. I can't imagine how long
those brilliant artists spent on those comics. Great shit.

And yeah, the new stuff isnt the same.

I recently downloaded a torrent of all 10 books of nemesis
the warlock and book 1 of the ABC warriors.... i have a few
episodes from the early 80's and more from the late 80's.
John Hicklenton was my favourite artist.... very dark,
violent, fucked-up style.....

I have loads of 2000ADs from around 87-91, I'm sure I've got
the one in the first pic. Used to love the art work.
