Well, I like the main pad sound, creates some pretty nice
harmonies, on the other hand I do not like the vocoder thing
at all, it sounds a bit too fat and muddy, the amen sounds
pretty nicely mixed but the other breaks is a bit weak in
the mix, at least in comparison to all the synth sounds, try
panning some of them out alittle or use a stereo splitter of
some sort. the bass sound is not of my taste but it's sounds
good in the mix.
I'm not sure what to say about the arrangement, the melodies
or the track itself, it doesnt keep me very interested
sorry, the harmonies feels a bit repeitive and dull and even
if theyre pleasant it doesnt quite cut it for me in a 4min
track. Same with the drums, the way they start out is pretty
nice but it's never really taken to another level and the
track is a bit to soft and attitudeless to just be an head
noddling/dancable track =/ sorry if it didnt came allot of
constructive or positive critism out of this post

Potentially nice but with the cliched breaks it's just ..
annoying. For people that find "Hello Everything" too
hardcore.

well i love cliched breaks and have used them dilligently
forever, so i'm not too put off by them. not worse than
using a roland drum machine in your tracks, really.

all in all, it's quite enjoyable but a bit static. tune down
the bass synth a bit, too loud! and the vocoder bit could do
with a bit of highpass filtering, nothing extensive though.
i think you should work more on the structure, not keep the
same drones up forever. more dynamic stuff, like dropping
out frequency fields and keeping the pace more interesting.
yeah. but like i've said just about every time i comment on
music, it's a subjective thing. it's just what i'd do, and
no one's really correct here, so keep up! i actually miss
the melodic oldschool amen stuff, and have been working on
some myself lately after a few years of, well, not really
touching it at all. no matter what people say about
regurgitating old stuff etc., it's one of the niches i like
to work in and i enjoy most of that music immensely, if done
well.

thanks, I couldnt have asked for much more constructive
criticism. i think some mixing will solve a few of the
issues but its hard to do since it clips and cuts out when I
play it in the sequencer cause of the cpu... vocoder does
need improving too. im not sure if i'll be able to salvage
this
:[

thanks for listening db, i like cliched breaks though

yeah well Im really more than happy to just make music i'd
like so db will never be in my fanclub. but I dont think ive
managed it here, it sort of never goes anywhere after the
first drop, im surprised i hadnt noticed how dull it was

I like it, I honestly do, I think it's a nice, moody,
atmospheric track, it's just a matter of taste for me
regarding the "breaks" aspect. I get the same thing with
"Hello Meow" on the Squarepusher album, it starts out good
and then as soon as the first "duh duh dssh dssh dssh duh
dih dsssh dssh" break comes in you know exactly where it's
going and you can safely skip to the end. And I don't agree
it's the same as using a Roland drum machine (or sample
pack), or indeed any drum sound, it's the pattern that's the
stickler.

But that's me. Dannn_'s said time and time again that
innovation's overrated. That's fine, that's his view point,
this is his music. You know, I'm just saying, in my opinion,
aim a little higher, could be really good, but at this
level, it's Track 18 on a LTJ Bukem mix from 10 years ago.

I guess it just depends what you want to do with music, and
there's no right or wrong.

I must get off this fence, it's getting right up my scraggy
arse.

i was thinking of the sound, really, and how original you
can get there. as far as the sequence/pattern, there are
natural constrictions, but yeah, all about taste. i get a
little fuzzy inside when i hear the amen wrenched well.

I suppose when I can make tracks like this that sound good
enough, I might start aiming higher

*self deprecates*

it's absolutely lovely! I agree on the drums, though.. you
could do something a bit more imaginative with them. of
course, they work the way they are now and they fit nicely
with the track, but you said you want to "finish it up
better" so...

actually, can you just send me everything but the drums and
I could have a go with some microbeats and beatboxing.. and
maybe a tuba and a didgeridoo...

my thoughts exactly.

the beat machine used is not that disturbing. there's good
flow which is more important imo
