Haven't listened to BT since he kept putting his ugly mug on
the front of his CD's.
I loved the Ima album though.

I've heard clips from this and it sounds stunning. It's
certainly not what I'd call "second rate IDM", you
cockeater.

BT = British Telecom, no?
JT = Japanese Telecom

i wonder who would win in a battle.

BT has the voice/data infrastructure and user-base
but JT has crazy electro

no, BT stands for "Beyond Telecom", haven't you seen the
ads? (no wait that can't be right...)

Haha, trade it for the new Hybrid album, probably more the
sort of thing you're looking for (very good btw) ;)

I love this album. It's a perfect blend of dramatic
cinematic melodies and glitchy beats. I highly recommend it.
I could see why fans of BT's previous work would be confused
by this release, though.

it has some good moments, it's not the best album there is,
but most of the songs are over 10 minutes long, i wouldnt
call them epic because of that but he does a good job of
making it unboring

some tracks sound like the sort of music you would hear for
the intro to some crappy tv series

hahahaha, well described. it's certainly a departure, but
the melodies aren't very strong for the most part; the
tracks are all near-identical and it sounds a bit like a
gayer jon hopkins with more glitchy percussion. i don't like
it.

crappy TV shows must have pretty good music, then.

Yeah, I don't really like this one anymore (and I actually
really quite like his 'poppy' stuff sometimes, it's nice
loud in the car, in spite of the album covers and lyrics.) I
was hoping for an interesting blend of glitchy stuff and
classical elements, but the melodies and harmonies seemed
pretty damn uninspired to me.

i think this album epitomizes the weird OCD like mentality
that some amazing ridiculously talented producers fall into.

they toil endlessly over the production to make it sound
absolutely perfect and polished as hell and the music itself
ends up sounding very souless and not very interesting and
very very uninspired.

the surround sound version of this album is very impressive
though, just for the production aspect but the regular
stereo version i haven't even been able to listen to the
whole thing, its pretty boring.

this might mean more to me, if it wasn't his interns that do
the majority of the editing and hard work.

he has a team of young kids making software for him, doing
edits for him etc. This is not the work of a single man
toiling away in front of the computer, but of a guy telling
a bunch of interns what to do.

haha really? i need to get me some philippine kids to do my
album for me whilst i sit and watch tv and eat pie. it's the
future.

Seriously? Woah, this is news to me. I thought he was known
for his abilities at all those edits and so on. Why wasn't a
team credited on the album, then? I've done some stuff with
Tim Simeon (who produced Depeche Mode's 'Ultra' album) and
he has a team of people doing sounds for him. They're always
credited.

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2008-04-21 18:23 [#02196605]

Seriously.

I mean, yes, he came up with the whole sample accurate time
correcting editing thing, but he no longer does it himself,
as its such a tedious process, so he has his interns do it.

Why don't they get credited? No idea.

There is actually a DVD video disc that comes with the 2CD -
so it's primarily intended as an audio visual release. Some
of the songs tie in very well with the videos, less so
without.

I admit the electric guitar stuff on this album is pretty
cheesy.. I dunno, I like this album a lot as a backing to
visuals, as music to do work to, or as video game backing
music. I've never actually sat down and JUST listened to the
music, I'm always doing something else while I enjoy it.
Maybe I'd feel differently if I just tried to listen to the
album by itself.
