"It is time for Iran to make a choice," Bush said at a
convention of the American Legion US veterans group.
"We've made our choice. We will continue to work
closely with our allies to find a diplomatic solution, but
there must be consequences for Iran's defiance and we
must not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon," he
stated.

They want a nuclear detterent like Israel. They know
everybody knows that they're making nukes, and they're
fucking laughing at us.

if i understand the situation correctly;

all that iran faces right now are sanctions. the bush
administration thinks that the U.N. isn't going to do
anything at all.

there's no lie that will gain the support of the american
people in an attack against iran. the republicans and
right-wing christian coalition maybe, but there's no
coalition the administration will be able to pull together
like was done in iraq to slaughter their people in
retaliation for 9/11...

iran is much more powerful than iraq,

and, we are currently occupying iraq!

chances of a military strike against iran: .8% at most

absolutely.

and i think what's meant by the second bit that's in bold in
your quotation, chaosmachine, is sanctions.

they've most probably already made up their minds on the
whole deal though, and are steadfast about going to war with
iran, like with iraq.

As I said in a topic yesterday or something about this same
subject, the US military have not currently got the
resources available to be able to attack Iran.

president of the United States."

I've got a great GWB (fake, at least I hope so) quote

I agree. We are spread pretty thin. Then again... with our
"take on the world" mentality i wouldnt be surprised if we
tried something. We need to get our ego in check before we
fuck up for good.

I don't think an army needs to actually enter the country
for it to be an attack. If I was some sort of leader of a
country and not a pacifist, etc, I'd consider such things as
an army stopping shipments of goods to my country an attack,
or in the very least a provocation that would require me to
act.. not only because of how it hurts the country I would
be supposed to govern, but also because I would have to
redeem myself in the eyes of the public, etc. If the US
effects an embargo on materials for the nuclear power plant
in iran, that's at least a direct provocation and at most an
act of war, and a war will once again have been started on
the basis of supposed intentions of another coutry ("they
do have weapons of mass destruction no matter
what your silly-nilly inspectors say! they do,
they do, they dooooo!!!").
