Hello Everyone,

I have been making electonic stuff for a while, but I have
never experimented with MIDI.

I thought I would ask here if anyone can give me a brief
description / answer a few questions:

1.What is MIDI

2.How are MIDI cables different than audio cables?

3.Are midi files the techniques used to create remixes of
work?

4.Can a wav file be transformed into a midi file?

5.Am I right to say that a midi file of a certain song is
split into individual elements of that song?

Many Thanks
Wizards Teeth

MIDI = Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Sorry, I fear I
have exhausted all my knowledge on the subject! I'm more of
an organic musician.

1.What is MIDI

like he said ^^^

2.How are MIDI cables different than audio cables?

Different wires for transmitting data, not audio.

3.Are midi files the techniques used to create remixes of
work?

a midi file could be given to someone for remixing, but its
allmost useless, unless they have the same gear and setup as
you. unless they just want the notes your using or something
??

4.Can a wav file be transformed into a midi file?

short answer, No

5.Am I right to say that a midi file of a certain song is
split into individual elements of that song?

yes, it can have a different track for every instrument, for
example, an individual track for kick, snare, hats, bass,
synth 1, synth 2 etc... ad infinitum

I dont like Midi though, let it be said, maybe my synth is
faulty, but im allways having problems with rogue notes that
come from nowhere, and Midi unedited sounds like crap,
untill you record, edit and put effects on everything, imo
anyway.

midi records note information, but not the sound itself. for
example, i can hook up my hr-16 to my mc 303 and play my hr
16 patterns that i have programmed with the sounds of the mc
303 because the midi information is being sent from my hr 16
to the mc 303. there are lots of other things you can do
such as changing parameters and information with
controllers.
