by making people think you should be "the best you can
be
", means that the maximum work effort is squeezed out
of you

hysterical! that may very well be the best word for
describing things right now.

and thought the notion that we all should deserve
fame or excellence is one that may indeed be widespread, it
seems like a bit of a warped view from even the hardest
individualist position: I don't think you're supposed to
deserve anything for nothing in true individualism
(in other words, you have to work hard on your own without
anyone elses help), but people no doubt have this notion you
speak of, and it also no doubt comes from the
individualistic notion of putting THE (HOLY)
INDIVIDUAL
on a pedestal of excellence.

okay, i guess i agree with that characterization of
"indivisibility" with regard to human beings. it would see
the human being as a certain structure wheraes the material
that consitutes the strucutre is secondary.

this viewpoint harmonizes with quantum phsyiscs as well. i
guess that's what you call a holistic object in quantum
physics. the individual "frog xy" doesn't exist anymore when
you cut it to pieces and pull out the different organs and
put them to different places. according to classical physics
it would still exist because all the parts are there.
according to quantum physics it doesn't because what
constitutes an individual is a certain interdependence and
coalition of things. ... which makes more sense anyway.

I miss the old DM who made topics like "My ass was so tight
this morning, my farts sounded like a digeridoo".

Now he's all philiosophical and shit

I'll make a thread like that just for you and then you can
post "god damned where are the music related posts?!" or
something in that vein

no, an individual is a special type of person. not all
persons are individuals, but all individuals are persons.

they are called.. "those who aren't individuals."

also, being an individual doesn't entail dressing like
no-one else, thinking like no-one else, etc.. it's just
(personal) autonomy still within society.

..then..can we compare individual and not individual with
trees?
..some trees give fruits..other trees not...
