the normal procedure is to get your music news from
pitchfork and then pretend that you didn't get your music
news from pitchfork.

i actually hope that they don't release a new album since
they're one of the very, very few bands that have a perfect
discography.

I almost agree with you on releasing NEW material 100%

About 95%

I still have a bit of curiosity on what they have brewing in
thier heads

well, that was painfully disappointing, now, wasn't it?

Jesus, they're really not kidding when they call them
doodles. I still have high hopes though, geoff barrow is
such an obsessive nutcase it'll at least be interesting to
see what he's been up to. Their self-titled is still one of
my favourite albums, coffee-table connotations and all.

Don't like Portishead, it's just sampled loops with a woman
who sounds like she's on the rag, not my sort of thing at
all.

a love portishead from time to time, but a new album would
be useless. what more could it be than what they've already
made?

...right, and they bloody well know it.
ergo: no new portishead

those 2 tracks sound interesting....but i hope there will be
less Gibbons on this next release - if they ever finish it,
ha !

perfectionism ? they could've released those two myspace
ideas on an ep long time ago, sound not too complicated.

on the other hand....if they were to release something shit
close to new dj shadow - i'd rather wait as long as it's
needed

These songs, even for backdrop doodles, were a tad
dissapointing. I do like the instrumentals of Portishead,
Undenied for example is a wonderful song, even without the
vocals.

But these...bit rubbish. But i mean come on, you have to
fuel the fire. Portishead bods are probably giving more to
the fans if they give them outtakes of material that is so
highly acclaimed. Polygon Window reissue ring a bell?

downloaded key bored, it is not like portishead. and why
make a sketch this long? a minute would have been enough.
wasted some traffic on this.

I was told by someone very close to the band that the
"new" proper album (IE successor to Portishead - the one
some people erroneously called "alien") was just about
finished and they were just re-jigging it/finishing it off.
I remember reading something in the press shortly afterwards
about Geoff Barrow being a bit of a perfectionist with it
and taking ages to finish it off, which pretty much
confirmed this.

That was 4 years ago, mind...

its too late to make a comeback and expect ppl to accept a
following on. not that anyone does. maybe thats a good thing
i dunno.

either i should ignore the whole issue, or admit straight
away i'm an inconsistent asshole. ... ok, i'll ignore it by
saying that the people who care can decide for themselves.
(hows that for some self-centered crap?)

so yeah, the clips on youtube look promising. and i'm
looking forward to their new one.
