is there any option besides the elektron machinedrum
actually that gives so much control over drumsamples?

what about the korg emx-1? is it any similar to that?

Korg ER-1 is a very good buy, but I expect you'd use your
Machinedrum (if you have one) over the ER-1.

Shit, thanks for telling me, I've been looking for an
alternative between the ER-1 and Machinedrum, thanks!!!

DOEPFER MODULAR SYNTHS

i'm looking for something rather different from those
vermona types where you already have a db, clap, snare and
hihat section.

i would rather prefer something where you can build sounds
from scratch - like the software waldorf attack.

they did a hardware version of Attack, called funnily enough
"Attack Rack"

but i've never seen one on eBay :(

i'd love to get hold of one!

yeah you're right ! just googled it ! that would be the
bomb

waldorf is announcing a comback maybe soon

i know man

there were a few drum machines on my "wishlist"
i have them all except for a TR-707, and the Waldorf Attack
Rack

i don't think Waldorf will do much hardware to be
honest...or if they do it'd have to be something damn
fucking amazing

i personally think that the Machinedrum would be right up
your alley though...not only for the synthesis control, but
also the onboard sequencing capabilities

sadist, what do you think about instead of drum machines,
getting a triggered "Brain" and then playing the beats out
on pads?

I'd also like that to be honest. There are 4 synth parts on
the ER-1 that can be whatever you like. Maybe modular is the
way to go for you. It may be expensive, but you'll get a lot
out of it.

isn't the emx-1 better then ?

what about the em-1 ?

oh - i found something really crative and interesting:

yamaha dx 200

maybe it's not that much programable but this fm synthesis
sounds really fresh and awesome. have to ebay one

Oh yeah, carefull with those on ebay. The synth card gets
pulled out by people regularly, because it can be used in
another yamaha synthesizer. You can still use it as a drum
machine, but it won't do the fm. If you find one BIN for
under $200, don't buy it.

The EMX-1 is better, but about £300 more than the ER-1. If
you only need drums, try both, but you'll probably be going
with the ER-1 in the end.
The EM-1 is pretty much crap if you're looking at buying an
EMX.

you know i just want something that isn't just a 909/808
clone. those stupid dance sounds really piss me off. i'm
searching for something really fresh !

but the elektron one is much too expensive for me i have to
admit.

i would take a dx 200 at once if there would be any on ebay
or anywhere.

if you're willing to lay down as much $ as for an elektron
sps-1, then I would go for a good Roland, TD-12 electronic
drum set... or go with DDRUM triggers and pads :)

The ER-1 has 909 hi-hat crash and clap samples, but the rest
is up to you. It can do all the 909/808 sounds but it can do
shitloads more too.

as i said - i just need a nice box that gives me a lot of
control over the sound. i don't need big polyphony or
multitimbral. i just want to be able to change every option
in the sound, use different modeling methods maybe,
modulations and so on.

futureimage have you forgotten about me ? ;D

Here it is

For IDM, I think you should stick to your laptop or
whatever. The ER-1's best for electro and stuff, as demoed
above, but I haven't really tried IDM. There's some DnB
patterns on there, and I know you can get some more clicky
sounds out of the ER-1, so you may be able to do something,
I dunno.

If you want to d/l it, go here then music at the
top, and the demo's the first track.

Hope that gives you a good choice. BTW, the demo above is of
the ER-1 Mk1. I don't remember there being any difference
between the Mk1 and the Mk2, apart from the Mk2 is a lot
redder and the preset patterns are different.

If you've got the time and the money and the effort, you
might want these instead:
Cynare
2 Drums (Kick + Tom?)
Chime, lol
Sequenzer
Get about 6 drum modules from the first 3 and a sequencer
and then you've got yourself a very very tasty drum synth.

hardware, but i know the sr16 can.

No, it's quite easy. Ignore the schematics, they
overcomplicate things. Look at the PCB and it's a lot lot
simpler, trust me.

Er-1 is good, quite a "soft" sound, it's mainly synthesis
based, only samples are hats, claps and cymbal. The
syntheseis engine is simple but surprisingly versatile
(extremely poky lfos and mental delays), I use it for deep
bass, glitch sounds and fucking up stuff through the audio
ins.

yeah, if you just look at the board, its not difficult to
get the bits and solder them on like a lot of these kits you
can buy.
The schematics are only of use to you if the thing doesnt
work and you need to fault find it.

The sequencer is horrible. a 4017 based sequencer is pants.
you could code up a pic microcontroller to do the same but
with memories and midi and that would be ace. The circuit
would have virtually no extra components adding either.

Also, what I like about synth DIY is how it's imperfect. If
you get a slightly not-quite-correct sawtooth waveform, then
that's great, use it all the time.
I can't see the point in synth clones at all either. If you
want an MS20, buy one. Don't waste time getting a DIY synth
to sound exactly like an MS20.
