They're not, just sounds like something AE would do.

the 'discovering electronic music' doc that it links to is
great.

yeah, that's not AE, but (sorta) close. I imagine you could
do something similar in Reason, yes?

Hmm, rather go with Reaktor.

Well then for that matter, go with Max/MSP.

I guess what I was trying to say was- 1)Making this kind of
stuff isnt as hard as it "sounds" and it most probably could
be done in Reason (which people often argue is a basic
entry-level DAW) and 2) Visually, Reason is setup very
similar to what you would get on a rack system as seen in
the video...

Yeah, I started trying MaxMSP, but to be honest, I've
haven't got the time, and my level of programming skills
with it would probably be very unadventurous; I can do
better stuff in a fraction of the time in Ableton Live.

I've tried Reason, and I thought it was crap. Some people
can work wonders with it, but I'm not one of them I'm
afraid.

Yeah, I am hit or miss with Reason. There's no contest
between the sound quality of Reaktor and that of Reason.
Reaktor kills it. Just for shits and giggles, I do think
its fun sometimes to experiment with all kinds of crazy
modulation in Reason. But while we're on the topic, I would
love to see what someone like Autechre would do with a
"basic" program like Reason. I know Luke Vibert's work in
Reason is relatively nice.

Reasons strengths are in its limitations. Its weaknesses are
in its rendering engine.

Just the ability to send the LFO's to other machines inside
reason, give you tonnes of possibilities. They didn't make
many instruments in it, but they seem to cover eachothers
asses really well.

To make complicated sounding stuff, the best place to start
is with an insidince of dr rex. Load up a subtractor and
malstrom, sequence them and then press tab. Start linking
the LFO output of the Dr Rex to anything you can thats
playing. Open up a spider cv spliter and run multiple
instances of that LFO all over the place. Run your rex file
through the malstroms filters. Record yourself playing with
the LFO amount. Instant gratification.

Haha, I'm just trying out Reaktor after having a crack of it
for ages. I gotta say, once you've got your head round it,
it sounds great. I've just made a nice little drum sequencer
with random hi hat and Hi-Q sequences. Niiiiiice.

i can get where one would say it sounds like autechre
because it's got a very sharp snare and kick but other than
that, i mean, that sequence (however it's being generated, i
don't know) isn't anything like AE at all. that sequence is
really static and doesn't have a 'lure' like more autechres
sqnces do. compare the sounds of that thing for example to
the Live in NY 1998 shit. more goes on within the sequence
and there's more 'animation', more of a lure that makes you
dance like james brown..

the difference is the same as being in a vehicle that
decelerates instantly as soon as you lift your foot from the
gas, versus being in one that gradually decelerates. see
what im saying?

Saw this earlier, lucky bastard.

Yeah, I guess that's what my attempts at doing something
like AE are lacking, the motion behind all the sequences...

"1)Making this kind of stuff isnt as hard as it "sounds" and

i think that's why this was posted, because it's special
it's not done on a computer..

Yeah, I'm building my own modular from the CGS kits soon and
I'm keeping an eye open for strange modules, as used here
(Wiard are one of the weirdest synth manufacturers out
there).

Sure I agree, unfortunately for the rest of us, we dont have
access to that type of equipment.
