3) it means nothing, it is just one of those internet
aliases that kids make up that they think makes them sound
really cool, like "ezkerraldean" for example.

very good..

from Oxen of the Sun:
EDY BOARDMAN (Bickering.) And say the one: I seen you up
Faithful place with your squarepusher, the greaser off the
railway, in his cometobed hat. Did you, says I. That's not
for you to say, says I. You never seen me in the mantrap
with a married highlander, says I. The likes of her! Stag
that one is. Stubborn as a mule! And her walking with two
fellows the one time, Kildbride the enginedriver and
lancecorporal Oliphant.

Years ago in an interview either Tom or Andy (can't
remember) said that squarepusher was basicallty a euphonism
for an acid dealer as acid is usually sold on little
squares. But given the geeky nature of this music it could
be nothing more than a reference to pushing buttons. Who
knows? Who really cares?

as bogala says, it's about pushing the boundaries of what is
capable with machines. like, drum machines and shit are all
programmed in a very regimented, "square" type fashion. he
is trying to push this "square", hence the mental beats and
interesting time signatures, that would not normally be
associated with programming a beat on a machine.

One day I was listening to him, and my youngest brother
comes in, (he's 8) and he says, "What's this music?" So I
tell him, "Squarepusher." He likes it, and starts dancing to
it, but his interpretation was a square, like a big cube in
a video game that goes around and pushes people, or traps
them. And our lives are that videogame. He took it
seriously, and went around saying, "I'm a squarepusher",
trying to knock me over, while standing rigid with his arms
bent at exact 90* angles in front of him, upward.

I think we should all agree, this is what squarepusher
means.

it's a reference to back when Tom had to push/peddle
LSD-blotters/squares to afford potnoodles and drummachines

He's still there, I got tired and went home. Occaisionally,
we'll bring him some food, and drop it in the hole. He's
only gotten about 6 feet down. There's lots of rock there,
but I don't want to spoil his dreams.
