sony is pretty but shit.

I have a fujitsu teeny lifebook, p7010, and I adore it.

IBM/lenovo is a very solid purchase, good all round machine,
though a not very exciting pick.

Asus/asustek makes good machines, don't be put off by them
seeming cheapy, apple trusts them as one of the
manufacturers of their laptops. scan through their site and
try to find something.

Avoid dell not just because of the batteries.

toshiba is probably good, and my girlfriend bought a turbo
cheap machine from 'averatec', but hasn't yet arrived so I
can't comment.

most importantly, since the selection is so varied, make a
clear decision as to what features you seek, and filter
based on that, otherwise you'll browse endlessly.

I'm pretty lucky, I chose carefully and a year later I still
like my machine more than everything that's show on up on
the market.

an easy way to filter is battery life.

I am so bored! I should respond to email.

cheers man, only goin to use it for music prodction and live
performance. really frustratin this, too many laptops on the
market, cant make a bloody decision.

the asus machines look pretty good,

also would u recomend goin to a large store like pc world,
comet or a small dealer.

im a mac user so I would say this, but if its just for music
production they are worth considering, I think they are very
reliable for live performance. Check that the programs you
use are available on Mac (acid and fruityloops aren't for
example) first.

General advice i tell everyone buying a laptop is dont be
stingy, everyone including me seems to think theyll be fine
with a smaller hard drive or a slower processor but
upgrading isnt easy so I think you should splash out and get
something really good, you will be glad you did. On the
other hand I dont think getting a big one is a good idea
neccesarily, I have a 12" iBook and I think the littleness
is a real advantage most of the time.

They won't work on mac directly, check whether a mac version
is included on the CD, but you might need to buy again
which is ghey

your license work for both platforms

be very conscious about the mouse design. I have this eraser
head type of mouse and it sucks nine walrus cocks.

I have a Thinkpad. It is nice.

Get a ToughBook. Then you can drop it down steps, use it for
body armour, mount it in your car, operate in a hurricane,
etc.

Does anyone know how long it takes from when I press "buy"
on a dell laptop until I get it in the mail?

I am very impressed with my new macbook, I have to say...

One of the best features is the remote, surprisingly - the
remote menu is very very well designed - I now play all my
music from my bed, as well as watch dvds etc, the usual...
especially brilliant if you're at uni like i am.

Haven't had time to set all my gear up on it yet,
annoyingly, but I will do soon. I got ableton live working
rather nicely but have yet to start any real projects.

Of course its a HUGE HUGE HUGE factor that you can now run
windows on it too - and it runs extremely well.
